Track Engine Runtime Automatically with Honeywell Forge

Track Engine Runtime Automatically with Honeywell Forge

A new innovation from Honeywell Forge uses connectivity and advanced data analytics to make it easier than ever for business aircraft operators to track and report engine runtime data to Honeywell’s signature Maintenance Service Plan – Propulsion.

Launched in April, the new Honeywell Forge Connected Flight Services feature automatically computes runtime data from the aircraft engine and other sources. This propulsion time is visualized on the intuitive Honeywell Forge Flight Services dashboard. Users can forward their monthly propulsion time to the MSP monthly reporting tool, which makes it easy for flight departments to monitor engine runtime per flight and per month. In the future, the computed propulsion time data is planned to be forwarded to maintenance tracking and scheduling.

The new service is available exclusively to Honeywell Forge customers who are enrolled in the MSP and use Honeywell’s datalink services. The new feature is available as a free trial until December 2021.

The integration of engine-data collection, datalink and MSP shows the potential of Honeywell Forge to improve operations, reduce costs and create a better flying experience for operators, passengers and maintenance teams. Honeywell Forge is a software and data analytics platform that delivers industry-leading cabin connectivity and flight services to the business aviation community, said James Buckner, Business Development Manager.

“Honeywell Forge Connected Flight Services represents an enormous improvement in the way business aviation operators track engine running time data and send it to Honeywell so they can take advantage of the MSP usage-based incentives that are part of the program,” Buckner said. “In the past, operators had to use a manual reporting process that was time-consuming and prone to errors.”

“Only Honeywell has the know-how to remotely calculate engine propulsion times and transmit that data to the reporting tool for our datalink and MSP subscribers,” he added.

The service uses a proprietary algorithm to compute start and shutdown time of the engine, using data from multiple sources on and off the aircraft. That information is automatically calculated and visualized in the dashboard after each flight. Honeywell provides the operator with the option to be notified for each flight leg and provides cumulative month-end engine runtime.

Data can be reviewed and edited by the operator before submission. “We have been impressed by the high accuracy of the propulsion calculations,” he said. “We’re convinced that operators who use Honeywell Forge Datalink Services and are MSP subscribers will benefit enormously from these new capabilities.

Honeywell Connected Flight Services is available today for propulsion engines and is expected to be extended to cover auxiliary power units (APUs) in the near future.
