The Diplexer/Low Noise Amplifier (DLNA) is a critical element of an aircraft’s satellite communications system, allowing simultaneous transmission and reception of satellite signals.
- Overview
- Resources
Beginning in Q4 2022, the U.S. Federal Communications Commission (FCC) has authorized the use of critical spectrum previously dedicated to satellite communications to deploy ATCt/5G networks across the country using the L-Band radio spectrum. This spectrum overlaps the “receive” band of the Inmarsat L-Band spectrum used for safety services and other essential communications, which can cause interference or service disruption to L-Band communications on commercial, business, and military aircraft.
In 2020, the Federal Communications Commission authorized the use of radio spectrum previously dedicated to satcom to be used by ATCt/5G terrestrial networks being built across the US. This spectrum allocated for terrestrial networks overlaps the receive band of Inmarsat L-Band satcom systems, which can cause interference or service disruption to L-band satcom systems on commercial, business, and military aircraft.
Honeywell’s Type J DLNA is designed to protect Class 6 and Class 7 Inmarsat L-Band satellite communications systems from interference caused by new 5G and LTE networks being deployed worldwide.
