Energy Efficient

The HGT400 gas turbine auxiliary power unit (APU) is the next generation derived from the RE220 family of APUs. The HGT400 APU offers an integrated system that supplies pneumatic and electric power for the aircraft while on the ground or in-flight.

Our newest large cabin business aviation APU is derived from a successful lineage of the proven RE220 APU and is approximately 30 pounds lighter than the average APU in its class, with industry-leading technological advancements to maximize performance and reliability. The HGT400 is also equipped with our latest electronic controller technology, allowing for smooth communication with the integrated flight deck.

Other important factors:

  • A new electronic controller, eliminating obsolescence issues and integrating with the latest cockpit input/output
  • 30 pounds lighter than the next best alternative
  • Fireproof mounts as part of the latest certification
  • Double the proven reliability in mean time between unscheduled repairs (MTBUR), compared to the next best alternative

HGT400 Spells Performance for Business & Regional Operators

If your passengers are comfortable and content on the tarmac, you can probably thank a Honeywell auxiliary power unit, like the ultra-reliable and efficient HGT400. Designed to meet the specific needs of large-cabin business and regional aircraft, the HGT400 is a performance leader in its class with plenty of power to keep the AC running, light the lights and start or restart the aircraft’s propulsion engines – on the ground or in flight.

The HGT400 is now being considered for new platforms by several leading aircraft manufacturers.  It’s already standard equipment on several top-selling business and regional jets, including the Gulfstream G500 and G600, Bombardier Regional Jet and Challenger 850.

Introduced about a decade ago, the HGT400 is derived from Honeywell’s proven RE220 APU. It’s equipped with Honeywell's latest electronic controller technology, allowing for smooth communication with the flight deck.

The system is about 30 pounds lighter than the average APU in this class and incorporates industry-leading advancements to deliver power, reliability and cost benefits to operators. For example, mean time between failure rates for the unit are unprecedented in an APU this size at greater than 17,000 hours, which is about twice the proven reliability record of competing units.

With 300-350 horsepower and 60kVA output, the HGT400 supports higher electrical loads than the 40kVA customarily generated by APUs in this class. This enables the unit to meet the ever-increasing demand for power on modern business and regional jets.

Honeywell APUs reliably provide secondary power for tens-of-thousands of flights worldwide every day. Honeywell has produced more APUs than anyone else – more than 100,000 since introducing the first one in the mid-1950s.

Honeywell’s talented APU engineering team is constantly boosting the performance of this signature product, which equips commercial, business and regional, and military aircraft and helicopters. Today, Honeywell provides the industry’s widest range of secondary power solutions ranging from smaller engines that provide around 100 shaft horsepower to our most powerful, which generates 1,700 shp.
