Honeywell Flight Efficiency
Save Fuel and Shrink Your Carbon Footprint
Improving sustainability is important to the airlines, their passengers and – most of all – to the planet. That’s why airlines of all sizes are doing everything they can to reduce both fuel burn and carbon emissions. In fact, a growing number of airlines have committed to becoming carbon neutral in the decades ahead.
Honeywell is on the same path and has pledged to become carbon neutral by 2035. Our commitment also extends to applying our unique capabilities to helping our airline customers achieve their sustainability objectives with Honeywell Flight Efficiency – the industry’s most advanced and capable enterprise performance management solution.
More aircraft rely on Honeywell Flight Efficiency to improve flight efficiency and reduce carbon emissions than any other solution. As an Enterprise Performance Management (EPM) solution, Honeywell lets you streamline your entire flight efficiency program. Often replacing multiple-point solutions, Honeywell connects stakeholders across the entire organization to provide a unified source of truth for all operations-related data.
Honeywell advanced analytics lets you uncover the hidden potential beyond standard best practices. Even airlines with mature and sophisticated fuel-efficiency programs have unlocked significant additional savings by implementing Honeywell.
“We have a strong track record of identifying and implementing initiatives to reduce our carbon emissions. This technology will allow our airlines to further optimize their fuel consumption by analyzing aircraft performance and sharing best practice across the group."
Willie Walsh, Chief Executive, IAG
Pilot Connect App
Now, Honeywell Flight Efficiency users can fully engage flight crews in their operational efficiency improvement programs with the new Pilot Connect app.
Created by pilots, for pilots, this easy-to-navigate, customizable app can seamlessly integrate dynamic data insights and company-specific efficiency information. Pilots will have improved situational awareness before, during and after each flight with actionable efficiency and performance indicators.
Pilot Connect is available in app stores now for Honeywell Flight Efficiency customers.
The aviation industry generates about 2% of the world’s carbon emissions. While that may not seem like a lot compared to the impact caused by other modes of transportation, including cars and trucks, it’s still a considerable amount. While the airline industry already has done a lot to reduce its impact on the planet, there’s still plenty of room for improvement.
The flying public cares about the environment and studies show that passengers would prefer to fly on airlines with good environmental practices. Travelers consider a lot of factors when choosing a flight – like cost, schedule and Wi-Fi availability – but airlines with an ecofriendly reputation could find themselves with a competitive advantage in the years to come.
Finally, sustainability is good business for airlines. Reducing fuel consumption is the best way to cut emissions, but in today’s competitive environment with constantly fluctuating oil prices, it’s also a sure way to reduce operating costs and bolster the bottom line. Improving fuel efficiency not only reduces your direct fuel costs, but also the additional cost of offsetting carbon emissions.
"Fuel consumption accounts for between 20% and 40% of an airline's operating costs, and Honeywell's technology lets us analyze data at every phase of the flight to discover opportunities for reduced fuel consumption and overall improvement in operational efficiency."
Captain Hans Tettero, Director Tactical Analysis Flight Operations, KLM
Fuel saving initiatives are nothing new for airlines. Most carriers implemented the fuel efficiency best practices recommended by IATA – the International Air Transport Association. These include things like single-engine taxi, continuous descent approaches and reduced flaps at landing.
Airlines can do much more to fully exploit flight-efficiency opportunities. But it’s impossible to take fuel reduction to the next level using manual processes. It requires data from many sources to make decisions impacting fuel efficiency, which is where the concept of big data enters the picture.
Analyzing multiple disparate sources of data simultaneously to measure performance and derive insights is hugely complex and time-consuming. Are you leveraging all available and relevant data sources? Are all stakeholders and departments engaged? Are your flight operations optimized for efficiency with the latest upgrades and tools?
“With Honeywell’s Forge Flight Efficiency software, we’ll be able to make data-driven decisions that increase profits through more efficient flight routes and better visibility into operational controls that can result in increased fuel efficiency compared with what Japan Airlines is currently experiencing.”
Kosuke Kuroda, Manager, Fuel Group, General Procurement, Japan Airlines
