Airlines See the Light with Honeywell LED Solutions

Airlines See the Light with Honeywell LED Solutions

Ninety years have passed since Warren Grimes got the bright idea of installing tail and wingtip lights on airplanes, but the business he founded lives on in spirit as part of Honeywell Aerospace Technologies. Aircraft lighting is still an important product line for Honeywell and we provide exterior lighting for leading general aviation, business, air transport and military aircraft.

Exterior lighting increases safety by making aircraft more visible to ground crews, air traffic controllers and pilots of other aircraft. This is especially important when aircraft are landing, taxiing, or crossing runways, particularly at night when their use is mandatory.

Honeywell has been a leader in the evolution of light-emitting diode (LED) lighting for aircraft. Today’s LEDs deliver a better user experience with brighter, more natural light, giving pilots a better view of the runway, and enabling the aircraft to be seen better by ground crews and other aircraft.

LEDs last up to 50,000 hours, compared to just 50-75 hours for halogen lights, so operators can reduce maintenance costs by as much as 70%. They also use less power, generate less heat and are more reliable than halogen lights.

Our newest generation of LED aircraft lights takes exterior lighting to new heights. Honeywell LED logo, tail anti-collision, landing and taxi lights are far superior to the previous generation of halogen lights still in use on most aircraft. We also make it easy for aircraft manufacturers and airlines to upgrade to the latest technology with LEDs that are a drop-in replacement for current halogen lamps.

Honeywell also produces a state-of-the-art universal LED searchlight for use on commercial and military helicopters. Like our other lighting products, Honeywell searchlights use less power. They also are immersible and have single and dual mode capabilities, allowing operators to be flexible and agile while performing critical missions and providing more clarity than legacy halogen searchlights.
