Honeywell Brings Proven Cockpit Options to Singapore Airshow
Aerospace Marketing
When the international aviation community converges during the Singapore Airshow this week, Honeywell will have its hands on the controls, demonstrating the latest in cockpit technologies that provide smooth flights for airline passengers.
Billing itself as Asia’s largest aerospace and defense event, the biennial Singapore Airshow will take place Feb. 6–11 in that island city with a population of more than 5 million. Throughout the show, Honeywell will offer potential customers an intimate look at advanced technologies designed to make life easier for pilots and ensure passenger safety and comfort.
United Airlines recently selected Honeywell’s suite of flight-deck options for its new fleet of more than 150 Boeing 737 MAX airplanes, including the first installment of Honeywell’s SmartRunway and SmartLanding navigational and advisory systems. This equipment enables pilots to be more keenly aware of their position during taxi, takeoff and landing, greatly reducing their risk of ending up on the wrong runway or taxiway, which is a major safety concern in aviation today.
The carrier’s 737 MAX aircraft will also feature Honeywell’s IntuVue RDR-4000 3D Weather Radar, the world’s only fully automatic radar system. IntuVue has been proved to reduce turbulence-related incidents by more than 45 percent, providing accurate weather information up to 320 nautical miles ahead of the airplane.
United’s newest jets will also come equipped with Honeywell’s Integrated Multi-Mode Receiver (IMMR), combining satellite- and ground-based navigation systems into one receiver. IMMR offers unmatched accuracy, and the ability to provide turbulence detection up to 60 nautical miles ahead of an aircraft, in a package 50 percent smaller and lighter than competing systems.
In 2015, Southwest Airlines also selected Honeywell flight deck systems for its 240-plane order of 737 MAX airliners, adding to its existing fleet of 737 Next Generation models also flying with Honeywell cockpit avionics. Honeywell has shared a 30-year working relationship with Southwest, the world’s largest operator of Boeing 737s. Southwest was also the first airline to incorporate IMMR technology into its fleet.
These latest orders reinforce Honeywell’s position as the most trusted aerospace source for flight-deck solutions that enhance pilot awareness and decision-making, while also improving passenger safety and comfort. Honeywell’s cockpit upgrades and new installations will enable United and Southwest to meet current and future regulations mandated by the U.S. Federal Aviation Administration. This includes the use of Automatic Dependent Surveillance-Broadcast, which provides a more complete assessment of an airplane’s location to other airplanes and air traffic control.
Boeing’s twin-engine, single-aisle 737 is the top-selling commercial airplane of all time. The MAX, the program’s latest version that entered service last year, has enjoyed noteworthy success, generating more than 4,000 orders from 92 global customers.
