Thermal Barrier Coatings
Thermal Barrier Coatings for Turbine Engine Components
Protecting gas turbine engine components from combustion gas temperatures that are well above the melting point of superalloys is critical to engine operation, performance and reliability.
As a world leading developer, supplier and repair and overhaul center for gas turbines engines Honeywell has developed unique expertise and proprietary Thermal Barrier Coating (TBC) systems that safeguard critical engine parts under the most demanding of operating conditions. We offer EB-PVD and APS thermal barrier coatings for aerospace; industrial gas turbine (IGT); and oil and gas (O&G) applications.
Honeywell has been at the forefront of innovation for more than a quarter century. Our first-generation TBC System, US Patent 5,514,482, was deemed so vital to national interests that the patent was under a secrecy order for more than 10 years and quickly became the industry wide standard after the secrecy order was lifted, with well over 20 million parts in service worldwide. We have continued to innovate and hold more than 45 patents covering the full range of Advanced TBCs and other protective coatings, plating and electroplating processes.
Proven effective in millions of hours of engine operations, our Thermal Barrier Coatings, including the industry Standard TBC and a new Advanced TBC, are available for aerospace and industrial applications.
We continue to add coating capacity and advanced coating capability at our state-of-the-art TBC facility in Greer, S.C., where our experienced technical staff already work with many of the world’s leading producers and operators of aircraft and industrial turbine engines. We are making substantial investments in new capital equipment to greatly expand our capacity in our electron beam-physical vapor deposition (EBPVD), bond coat and supporting upstream and downstream operations and services.
In a demanding industry, our expansion gives us the flexibility to offer TBC system services to new customers.
The Honeywell team continues to advance the science of thermal barrier coating systems. They’re working on next-generation materials and processes that will extend component life, increase power density or increase fuel efficiency – all of which will create value for Honeywell customers.
Honeywell TBC technologies are available today to improve the performance and reduce the probability of premature failure of aerospace and industrial engines and other equipment. All with the technical superiority, responsiveness and quality you’ve come to expect from Honeywell.
