Honeywell Marks Commercial ADIRU Milestone

Honeywell Marks Commercial ADIRU Milestone

More than 30 years after the first commercial aircraft inertial reference unit (IRU) rolled off the assembly line in Coon Rapids, Minn., Honeywell recently shipped the 100,000th Air Data IRU (ADIRU). Honeywell develops and delivers ADIRUs/IRUs to all commercial air transport, regional, and business jet manufacturers including Airbus, Boeing, Bombardier, Dassault, Embraer, Gulfstream and others.

“This is a major milestone for one of Honeywell’s signature aerospace technologies,” stated Keith Schmidtke, Commercial Navigation Product Line Director. “Most commercial aircraft manufacturers use the Honeywell ADIRU/IRU on their aircraft. We’re enormously proud of the contribution that we make to improve the safety, reliability, efficiency and comfort to commercial aircrafts flying around the world.”

The modern ADIRU, including Honeywell’s extensive family of LASEREF IRUs, are used on most of the world’s airliners and business jets flying today. These systems incorporate high precision ring laser gyroscopes and accelerometers produced by Honeywell facilities in Minneapolis and Redmond, Wash. The ADIRU supplies safety-critical attitude and navigation information for use by flight crews and other aircraft systems.

Honeywell continues to innovate the IRU/ADIRU products by enhancing performance, capabilities, and reliability while reducing size, weight, and power. Honeywell has exciting update and product launches coming in the near future that will continue the tradition of continuous innovation.
