Honeywell's HGuide IMUs and Inertial Navigation Systems Are Accurate and Proven

If inertial sensor technology can navigate aircraft, guide rockets and stabilize satellites, imagine what it can do for autonomous driving cars, unmanned aerial vehicles, cranes and robots.

With the addition of new Honeywell industrial, non-ITAR inertial sensor and navigation offerings, companies can achieve optimal accuracy and reliability with inertial measurement units (IMUs) in areas where GPS/GNSS signals aren’t available.

An IMU uses gyroscopes, accelerometers and electronics to provide precise rotation and acceleration data to an industrial machine’s control system. IMUs enable systems to calculate where it is, what direction it’s going and at what speed.

We’re working with engineers across several industries to serve the needs of a variety of commercial applications like agriculture, AUVs, communications, industrial equipment, marine, oil and gas, robotics, survey and mapping, stabilized platforms, transportation, UAVs and UGVs.

For example, we’re working with an autonomous vehicle company on a self-driving car program. They’re using our HG1120 MEMS IMU to make sure the navigation system on their test vehicles knows what direction the car is going and at what speed. The IMU complements other systems onboard the autonomous vehicle, including laser-based detection systems and GPS/GNSS, and provides vital position information even when GPS/GNSS signals aren’t available.

In addition to IMUs, Honeywell also offers navigators, such as the HGuide n580, a small, light-weight, self-contained, all-attitude inertial/global navigation satellite system (GNSS) navigator. Honeywell’s integration expertise blends high-performance IMUs, such as our HG4930 IMU, and GNSS receivers to provide accurate, robust navigation data to companies around the world.
