Aspen RNAV (RNP) Runway 15 Approach

Aspen RNAV (RNP) Runway 15 Approach

Honeywell Receives FAA Approval for Aspen RNP AR Approach

Honeywell has developed and received FAA approval for an RNAV (RNP) approach to runway 15 at Aspen, CO.  RNAV (RNP), also termed RNP AR, is a GPS-based approach that allows for narrower obstacle clearance corridors due to aircraft onboard navigation monitoring and alerting.

The new Aspen RNAV (RNP) N Rwy 15 approach provides:

  • Lower minimums of 537’ HAT - 1 ¼ mi vis
  • A stable 3.5° approach to the runway
  • Guided missed approach for safe extraction
  • Ability to conduct night operations
  • Ability to conduct approaches with Category D aircraft

The goal of this approach design was to eliminate the “dive and drive” maneuver, prevent excessive holding time waiting for improving weather, and to reduce diversions because of high minimums required with current, traditional approaches.

Eligibility for the Approach*

  • Aircraft certified for RNP AR to RNP 0.1 lines of minima, RNP less than 1.0 in the missed approach, and RF legs are eligible
  • Flight Crewmembers must have completed an FAA-approved RNP AR training program and reviewed the Aspen RNP AR Briefing package (available from Honeywell)
  • Current customers with qualified aircraft that subscribe to Honeywell RNP database will have access to the approach
  • Hold FAA Letter of Authorization C384 and C081

*Customers with non-US registered aircraft should contact their regulatory authority as requirements for special approaches may differ.

Want Access or Need More Information?

Current customers with qualified aircraft that subscribe to Honeywell’s RNP database will have access to the approach.  New customers that subscribe for the Aspen approach will also get access to the 400 US public RNP AR approaches already published.  Honeywell currently offers consultancy and support services to business and general aviation and airline customers.  We can help get you up and running for RNP AR.
