Upgrade Improves 36 150 Apu Reliability

Upgrade Improves 36-150 APU Reliability

A new hydrodynamic seal and other configuration changes have improved the reliability of one of Honeywell's most widely used auxiliary power units, the 36-150. The upgrade is covered by a November service bulletin that addresses potential compressor seal leakage into the environmental control system.

Honeywell's Global Customer Committee (GCC) identified the problem as the No. 1 issue causing APU removals during periodic maintenance events. The fix virtually eliminated the leakage problem; no operators have experienced compressor-seal related removals after performing the upgrade.

Operators of aircraft with 36-150 APUs should have the unit inspected and the seal replaced during their next maintenance event.

This is just the latest example of how the GCC works with Honeywell to continuously improve performance, reliability and efficiency for Business & General Aviation customers. GCC members help Honeywell set priorities and allocate resources through use of a Top 25 rolling action item list that pinpoints improvement opportunities for Honeywell Customer & Product Support team members.
