How A Director Of Flight Operations Reduced Time On Ground

How A Director Of Flight Operations Reduced Time On Ground

Customer:

Name: Marty Rollinger
Title: Director of Flight Operations
Company: A small, privately held company based in the United States

Challenge: As the Director of Flight Operations, Marty Rollinger is responsible for the supervision of all flight department activities - scheduling, maintenance, training, security and ensuring total customer satisfaction.

With the mandates looming, Marty wanted a comprehensive solution that would provide additional safety features and assure the company’s Dassault Falcon would continue to have access to US airspace in 2020.

Solution: Partnering with Honeywell and Dassault Aviation, Marty upgraded the aircraft's cockpit to the Primus Epic for Dassault EASy II. For his team, this solution made their aircraft mandate compliant and it introduced them to new features that business jet pilots have long sought. Featured upgrades included the SmartView Synthetic Vision System (SVS), satellite-based augmentation system approaches (SBAS), Automatic Descent Mode, SmartRunway Runway Awareness and Advisory System (RAAS), Controller Pilot Data Link Communication (CPDLC), Flight management system (FMS) improvements and more.

Key benefits include:

·       Controller Pilot Data Link Communication (CPDLC): increased communication functionality and capability crossing the Atlantic, and has also allowed them to participate in the US transition to DATA COMM.

·       Localizer Performance with Vertical guidance (LPV): increased their ability to operate safely and efficiently to many additional runways.

·       ADS-B Out: allowed them to comply with the up and coming mandate.

" We are very pleased with the RAAS and the synthetic vision system (SVS). While the left seat pilot still uses the Heads Up Display primarily, the right seat pilot finds the SVS increases his situational awareness especially in the arrival, approach and landing phases of flight."

Results: Since implementing the Primus Epic for Dassault EASy II, they have experienced enhanced operational safety, while also dramatically improving the aircraft efficiency. With the SVS, Wide Area Augmentation System (WAAS GPS), RAAS and ADS-B Out being used every flight, “the Primus Epic for Dassault EASy II is integral to operating the aircraft,” said Marty.
