ACI Jet and Honeywell are making it easier and more affordable than ever to improve flight safety, efficiency and passenger comfort by moving up to the RDR-7000 IntuVue weather radar from Honeywell.

Through the end of 2021, business jet operators can qualify for big savings by contacting preferred channel partner ACI Jet and arranging to install Honeywell’s next-generation radar system at ACI Jet’s state-of-the-art maintenance, repair and overhaul facility on California’s central coast.

The RDR-7000 IntuVue weather radar is the next evolution in weather radar technology, providing a step-change in functionality, usability, and reliability over legacy magnetron-based weather radars. Due to increasing obsolescence, rising support costs, and decreasing demand of magnetron-based weather radars, Honeywell has stopped taking orders and will be phasing out support for Primus 660/880 weather radars through 2026 or sooner, except where contractual obligations apply.

Special promotional discounts are available today to support customers ready to make the transition to RDR7000. Incentives include a $65,000 trade-in credit for Primus 660/880 radar systems, as well as a Maintenance Service Plan-Avionics discount of $30,000 for operators signing a new three-year contract. Additional incentives are available to operators upgrading multiple aircraft to the RDR-7000.

For more information or to schedule your RDR-7000 installation, contact ACI Jet or, better yet, visit the ACI Jet booth at the NBAA/BACE Oct. 12-14 at the Las Vegas Convention Center, Booth #1259.

Honeywell’s new radar offers a multigeneration leap to a new-technology solution that will improve flight safety and operational performance, drive down costs, reduce pilot workload, and increase the value of your aircraft.

Based on the RDR-4000, which Honeywell introduced for airline use about a decade ago, the RDR-7000 fits all the capabilities of the RDR-4000 into a smaller, more efficient package. It weighs just 16 pounds and is about the same size as a conventional radar, so it’s easy and fast to install, reducing aircraft downtime.

The RDR-7000 outperforms legacy weather radars, literally by miles. Conventional weather radars scan only a portion of the sky. But the RDR-7000 scans the entire volume of air in front of the aircraft from the ground to 60,000 feet and up to 320 nautical miles along and adjacent to the flight path.

Honeywell engineers developed a technique called 3-D volumetric scanning to analyze storm clouds and search for conditions that might produce lightning, hail, turbulence or wind shear. Then it displays those conditions with easy-to-understand symbology – like small lightning bolts – so pilots can clearly see what kinds of conditions they’re facing.

It’s also very easy to fly, because the RDR-7000 is fully automatic, so flight crews can focus on flying the airplane, rather than operating the radar. The RDR-7000 displays all relevant weather information well in advance so the flight crew can change course to avoid storm cells.

The radar even looks beyond the first storm it detects so pilots don’t inadvertently steer clear of one cell, only to fly into another. Honeywell also uses a terrain data base to make sure there’s no mistaking ground clutter for weather returns.

Avoiding severe weather and a bumpy ride is a good thing, just ask any uneasy flyer. But conditions like turbulence, hail and lightning also can cause passenger injuries and costly aircraft damage. Other benefits of the RDR-7000 include lower operating costs from delays, diversions and flight cancellations, and lower maintenance costs because the RDR-7000 uses solid-state technologies.
