50 Years, One Promise: Honeywell MSP Keeps You Airborne

50 Years, One Promise: Honeywell MSP Keeps You Airborne

For half a century, Honeywell’s Maintenance Service Plan (MSP) has set the standard in business aviation, evolving from a simple engine coverage to a comprehensive, digitalized solution that keeps operators flying with confidence.

What You Will Learn in This Article

  • How Honeywell MSP has evolved over 50 years to meet the needs of business aviation operators.
  • The impact of digitalization and AI on predictive maintenance and operational confidence.
  • New features and global support that make MSP the industry standard for aircraft maintenance.

What started in 1976 as an extended maintenance plan covering out-of-warranty Honeywell propulsion engines has become business aviation’s preferred Maintenance Service Plan (MSP), delivering protection for Honeywell-equipped business jets.

Much has changed over the last half century, but Honeywell’s MSP is still dedicated to keeping business jets in the air where they belong.

Honeywell Pioneered Prepaid Maintenance Plans

Prepaid maintenance plans were practically nonexistent when Honeywell responded to customer requests by launching MSP for engines 50 years ago. Operators’ most critical needs have remained constant. They still want to avoid aircraft-on-the-ground (AOG) situations, recover ASAP if they have problems, manage the total cost of ownership, and make maintenance budgeting more proactive and predictable.

With MSP, Honeywell has delivered in spades for thousands of customers who have chosen Honeywell as their trusted maintenance partner, and not just for propulsion engines.

Honeywell has expanded MSP over the years to give operators the coverage they need to effectively maintain the Honeywell products on their aircraft. This modular approach lets customers create a maintenance service package tailored to their individual needs.

Today’s MSP is a comprehensive family of coverage offerings that includes MSP Propulsion for engines and auxiliary power units; MSP Nacelle for the HTF700, 7250, 7350 and 7500 series engine nacelles and related components; MSP Avionics for flight deck components and safety systems; MSP Control Systems, including cabin pressure and environmental controls.

Digitalization and AI Put MSP on the Leading Edge

Honeywell was among the first aviation companies to tap into the extraordinary power of digitalization and artificial intelligence to forecast maintenance needs, avoid unscheduled downtime and reduce total maintenance costs.

In 2024, the company introduced Honeywell Ensemble, a connected digital engine maintenance and health-monitoring service that uses real-time data analytics and AI to help aircraft operators anticipate and address engine issues before they affect operations.

Honeywell Ensemble is integrated with MSP Propulsion. It continuously collects performance data from an aircraft’s engines via a Wi-Fi-enabled engine data gateway and transmits that information to the Honeywell Forge data analytics platform, reducing maintenance administration tasks of using a laptop and cable to download Engine Condition Fault Tracking requirements monthly. Honeywell Forge shifts MSP from reactive maintenance protection to intelligent, predictive maintenance planning, significantly reducing downtime and improving operational confidence.

Accessing almost-real-time engine data also enables MSP Propulsion’s usage-based pricing model. Operators receive credits of up to 10% of the program value for using their engines within set parameters that cover engine cycle time, throttle use and operating environment.

"What began as a straightforward prepaid maintenance program today sets the global standard by providing operators with a great customer experience and – above all else – confidence and peace of mind for every flight."

Honeywell MSP: Getting Better All the Time

Even after 50 years, Honeywell continues to make regular improvements to MSP by enhancing predictive analytics, adding new options and features, and strengthening processes so business operators receive faster, more transparent and more dependable maintenance protection.

With MSP, operators know where they stand because the plan covers scheduled major maintenance, unscheduled repairs and the replacement of life-limited parts. It also provides better access to parts and rental units when needed, ties annual rate adjustments to economic indices and helps preserve the aircraft’s resale value.

Honeywell recently expanded its global network of authorized repair and service centers. With more than 600 centers worldwide, operators are never far from an authorized facility. Enhanced regional support enables superior service and faster turnaround by adding new centers in Asia-Pacific, the Middle East and Latin America.

Operators now have access to digital portals for tracking maintenance events, claims and service history, which has also helped reduce turnaround times for repairs and replacements.

Honeywell has expanded MSP’s cost-control and transparency features with fixed-rate pricing options that make budgeting more predictable, usage-based billing that aligns maintenance costs with actual flight hours or cycles and a new In Lieu of Warranty (ILOW) option for aircraft still under OEM warranty. The ILOW approach provides operators with additional benefits during the warranty period and ensures a smooth transition to full MSP coverage once the warranty expires.

As MSP marks its 50th anniversary, Honeywell’s unshakeable focus on delivering exceptional customer support remains unchanged.
