Asia-Pacific Aviation Growth: Opportunities and Innovation Ahead

Asia-Pacific Aviation Growth: Opportunities and Innovation Ahead

What You Will Learn in This Article

  • Strategic Insights into APAC Aviation Growth: Explore how Honeywell is positioning itself to support the rapid expansion of Asia-Pacific’s aviation market through MRO, aftermarket services, and certified used parts.

  • Technology and Talent Driving Innovation: Learn how Honeywell’s avionics advancements and pilot training initiatives—like Surf-A and collaboration with ChALPA—are enhancing safety, efficiency, and regional workforce development.

  • Unified Approach to Regional Success: Understand Honeywell’s “One Pack” philosophy and how cross-functional collaboration and leadership development are shaping the future of aviation in Asia-Pacific.

Jun Xu, President of Honeywell Aerospace Technologies Asia-Pacific, recently joined Adam Kress, Director of External Communications at Honeywell Aerospace Technologies, for a wide-ranging discussion on the future of aviation in the region. From MRO and aftermarket services to avionics and pilot training, Jun offered a clear vision for how Honeywell is helping customers capture opportunity in one of the world’s fastest-growing markets.

Passenger demand underscores this momentum: while global growth in 2023 was around 10%, Asia-Pacific surged nearly 26% year over year.

"Asia-Pacific has become a very significant aviation market with tremendous growth opportunities… the fleet side will grow the cargo four to five percent, which is higher than the global average. "

- Jun Xu, President of Honeywell Aerospace Technologies Asia-Pacific

Expanding MRO and Aftermarket Opportunities

As fleets both expand and age, the need for maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO) in APAC rises. Honeywell is focusing on increasing capacity and reducing turnaround times to better serve operators in the region.

The Honeywell Aerospace Trading (HAT) business also supports operators by reselling certified used parts from retired aircraft. “With those aircraft retired, we have the opportunity… take the parts in, touch on it and sell to the market.”

With that market growing in Asia-Pacific, Jun adds there’s a chance to capture that business potential.

Advancing Avionics, Safety and Talent

One primary growth opportunity for Honeywell in the region is a collaboration with the China Airline Pilots Association (ChALPA), which has hosted pilot conferences to promote awareness of Honeywell technologies including EGPWS (Enhanced Ground Proximity Warning System), 3D weather radar and flight management systems (FMS).

Innovations like Surf-A cockpit alerting software are helping pilots avoid runway incursions, providing pre-warning during taxi or approach. Because these solutions are often software upgrades to existing systems, they can be deployed quickly and at an efficient cost.

Honeywell also recognizes that people and collaboration are central to sustaining growth. The Runway Project develops rising talent through cross-functional projects and leadership coaching, while initiatives like Collaboration Moments build transparency and trust across regional teams.

This approach reflects Honeywell’s APAC philosophy of “One Pack”: a unified, inspired and trusted team dedicated to shaping the future of aviation in Asia-Pacific.
