Compact Fly-By-Wire Flight Control System

Overview
Honeywell’s Compact Fly-By-Wire (cFBW) is designed for use on any aircraft. Its reduced weight and size make it ideal for electric vertical takeoff and landing (eVTOL) aircraft and other advanced air mobility (AAM) platforms. cFBW also supports a wide range of other fixed-wing aircraft and rotorcraft.

cFBW is based on technology developed for the Honeywell flight control systems certified on the Boeing 787 and Embraer ERJ170/190.
  • Development maturity - cFBW has supported flight-testing of four vehicles (Part 23, eVTOL, crewed, and fully autonomous).
  • Modern electronic components and packaging technology result in a passively cooled computational platform that is small/light in support of the eVTOL, Part 23 and SAIL 4 UAV markets.
  • Baseline triple channel system designed to meet the most stringent certification requirements associated with Part 25 and SC (special condition) VTOL.
  • Dual channel architecture is available to support the safety requirements of a Part 23/SAIL 4 vehicle.
  • Supports the implementation of advanced functions (envelope protection, control laws, system monitoring, etc.) developed by the OEM or Honeywell.
  • With re-use efficiency, OEMs can integrate the cFBW on an initial platform then cost-effectively reuse across multiple applications.
  • Speed to market; Type-A FCC (flight control computer) is available today with red label hardware from production supply chain. Dissimilar FCC types will be available soon.
  • The development of the cFBW solution is based on Honeywell’s well-proven processes that align with Development Assurance Level A.
