Hainan Airlines Adopts Honeywell's Connected Aircraft Services to Improve Fleet Reliability

Hainan Airlines Adopts Honeywell's Connected Aircraft Services to Improve Fleet Reliability

  • Honeywell will supply its 131-9A auxiliary power unit, aftermarket support and connected maintenance services for Hainan Airline’s aircraft

ZHUHAI, China, Nov. 7, 2018 - Hainan Airlines has chosen Honeywell’s (NYSE: HON) auxiliary power units (APU) and aftermarket support program including regional asset exchange program and GoDirect Connected Maintenance service for its aircraft. The innovative product and service will offer improved performance and reliability, as well as optimized cost of ownership for the airline and enhanced in-house repair capabilities. The cooperation represents another milestone between Honeywell and Hainan Airlines, the first airline in the world to choose Honeywell’s GoDirect Connected Maintenance service.

“Winning the SKYTRAX Five-Star Airline award for the eighth consecutive year, we are very focused on expanding our expertise in providing an innovative in-flight-experience and meticulous services,” said Weibin Liu, Deputy General Manager, Aircraft Acquisition Office, Hainan Airlines. “Honeywell’s 131-9A APU, GoDirect Connected Maintenance service and global network of support greatly reduce the unexpected aircraft downtime, allowing our fleet to fly in prime condition and ensuring passenger comfort and safety.”

As part of the agreement, Honeywell will supply its 131-9A auxiliary power unit for Hainan Airlines’ fleet of 55 Airbus A320neo aircraft, and will provide a 10-year regional asset exchange program and GoDirect Connected Maintenance service for the APUs, that will help improve fleet availability by identifying potential mechanical issues or failures before they occur. In addition, both parties also signed a 10-year APU service agreement for 50 of its Boeing B737 MAX aircraft, and will set up an in-house repair capability and regional asset exchange program for 82 of its Airbus A330 aircraft. Hainan Airlines is growing its fleet at a fast pace and will have over 100 A330s by 2020, the largest fleet of its type in Asia Pacific.

“It is a great pleasure to extend our cooperation with Hainan Airlines as they continue to expand their fleet size, presenting a huge opportunity for aftermarket support for new and existing aircraft alike, and we are committed to providing world class services for its operations,” said Brian Davis, vice president, Airlines, Asia Pacific, Honeywell Aerospace. “We are proud to have collaborated with Hainan Airlines on our up to date technologies that will deliver a best flight experience.”

Honeywell’s GoDirect Connected Maintenance service for APUs works by using an existing data connection on the plane to download APU maintenance and fault data, to predict impending hardware failures with 99 percent accuracy. Those failures are routinely the highest cause of APU interruptions. Any data showing a potential problem is shared with Honeywell and analyzed to identify the issue before it can cause a delay. The data is then presented back to Hainan Airlines’ maintenance team in an easy-to-understand visual manner, enabling them to address faults proactively.

The 131-9A APU family is unique because it features an electronic control box that integrates advanced, simple-English troubleshooting logic and health-monitoring capabilities for intuitive maintenance. The 131-9A APU’s world class operational efficiency, along with Honeywell’s global network of customer support managers and technical engineers operating in over 30 countries, helps customers achieve on-time flight schedules. The technology offers superior performance, quick cost recovery, smooth transition and has a proven track record and provides access to connected services.
