Industry Experts Discuss Multi-Network Business Aviation Connectivity

Industry Experts Discuss Multi-Network Business Aviation Connectivity

Honeywell, Viasat and American Express leaders discuss how evolving expectations and new technologies are shaping in-flight connectivity.

What You Will Learn in This Article

  • How evolving passenger expectations are reshaping in-flight connectivity, with a growing demand for seamless, reliable internet access that mirrors ground-level experiences.
  • The technologies enabling next-generation connectivity, including Honeywell’s JetWave X and its role in delivering flexible, network-agnostic solutions that ensure consistent performance across satellite networks.
  • Key trends shaping the future of aviation connectivity, such as the shift from speed to simplicity and reliability, and the integration of multi-orbit networks to support uninterrupted global access.

Expectations Are Higher Than Ever

In September 2025, FlightGlobal hosted a webinar with experts from Honeywell, Viasat and American Express to explore the future of in-flight connectivity. Moderator Murdo Morrison noted, “We’re now in an era of multi-orbit, multi-network communications where onboard equipment allows users to move seamlessly from one orbit, one provider to another.”

Panelists agreed that passenger expectations have grown dramatically. Viasat’s Claudio D’Amico described how travelers now expect the aircraft to be an extension of their office in the sky, with seamless access to productivity and entertainment. Kenneth Colville of American Express emphasized that passengers don’t think about satellites or networks; they simply expect the same reliable connectivity in the air that they have on the ground.

Technology That Just Works

Meeting those expectations requires solutions that combine bandwidth, flexibility and reliability. Honeywell’s Jason Wissink explained that connectivity has shifted from a pleasant bonus to a baseline requirement.

To address that, Honeywell is delivering innovations such as JetWave X, which provides access to greater capacity from partners like Viasat while unlocking network agnostic capabilities. This smart system ensures that the aircraft can automatically switch between satellites, delivering the always-on experience passengers demand.

Honeywell also leverages its global support network and MSP-Avionics program to help operators minimize downtime, manage costs and keep critical systems performing.

"It should just work. Passengers shouldn’t need to think about which network to log on to – they just get on the airplane and stay connected"

- Jasson Wissink, President of Services & Connectivity, Honeywell Aerospace Technologies

The Future of Seamless Connectivity

Looking toward 2030, the panelists agreed that the industry will move beyond raw speed to focus on consistency and customer experience. Wissink noted that with bandwidth becoming standard, operators will differentiate by offering flexibility and dependable support when it’s needed most.

D’Amico added that providers will need new ways to measure connectivity quality, similar to how mobile performance is judged today. For operators, the ultimate goal is simplicity. Colville summarized that the ideal solution would merge GEO and LEO networks into one seamless service, allowing passengers to connect once and stay online everywhere.

As new satellite networks are introduced, operators can expect the same seamless access to these networks, and multi-network capacity will become a requirement. Honeywell’s JetWave X helps operators future-proof for emerging networks while providing unparalleled access to existing ones.

For Honeywell, the mission is clear: deliver connectivity that goes beyond speed to offer simplicity, reliability and confidence to keep passengers connected and operators flying.
