How Avionics and Safety Innovations Are Elevating APAC Aviation

Discover how Honeywell is working with pilots and regulators in Asia-Pacific to advance avionics, safety and operational efficiency.

What You Will Learn in This Article

  • Technology’s Role in Aviation Safety: Discover how Honeywell’s software-driven avionics solutions—like EGPWS and Surf-A—are enhancing pilot situational awareness and runway safety across Asia-Pacific.

  • Collaborative Innovation with Pilots and Regulators: Learn how Honeywell engages with pilot associations and certification agencies to refine technologies and address challenges like GPS jamming, ensuring safer and more efficient operations.

  • Cost-Effective Safety Upgrades: Understand how Honeywell’s approach to software-based enhancements enables fast, affordable deployment of safety improvements across existing aircraft systems.

Jun Xu, President of Honeywell Aerospace Technologies Asia-Pacific, recently joined External Communications Director Adam Kress for a conversation about the role of technology in advancing aviation safety and efficiency across the region.

Their discussion highlighted how new software-driven solutions are making a fast and positive impact on Honeywell’s collaborations with pilots, regulators and operators.

Collaborating with Pilots

Honeywell has partnered with the China Airline Pilots Association (ChALPA) to host pilot conferences that showcase key avionics technologies such as EGPWS (Enhanced Ground Proximity Warning Systems), 3D weather radar and flight management systems (FMS).

These sessions focus on raising pilot awareness, improving real-world use of Honeywell equipment and gathering feedback for future product refinements.

As Jun explained, “So that they can utilize the products more efficiently and therefore improve the safety.”

Working with Regulators

Jun also touched on Honeywell’s engagement with certification agencies in the Asia-Pacific region. By presenting technical solutions to challenges such as GPS jamming and spoofing, Honeywell supports both operators and regulators in creating safer skies. This dual approach ensures that new systems meet certification requirements while also equipping airlines with reliable, efficient tools.

Runway safety remains paramount for the region’s crowded and complex airports. Jun added that Honeywell’s Surf-A cockpit alerting software provides cockpit warnings of potential runway incursions, helping pilots anticipate and avoid issues.

Many of these innovations require only software updates to existing systems, delivering cost-efficient, quick upgrade paths to operators for immediate safety benefits.

Honeywell Aerospace Technologies is making aviation safer and smarter in Asia-Pacific with pilot collaboration and fast tech upgrades.
