Singapore Airlines Group Selects Honeywell to Improve Operational Efficiency and Reduce Downtime

Singapore Airlines Group Selects Honeywell to Improve Operational Efficiency and Reduce Downtime

  • Singapore Airlines, SilkAir and Scoot to use a broad range of Honeywell solutions including engines, avionics and GoDirect Connected Maintenance services.

SINGAPORE, Feb. 6, 2018 - Honeywell (NYSE: HON) has signed three contracts with the Singapore Airlines Group to provide the latest Honeywell technologies and solutions to help improve operational capabilities for Singapore Airlines, SilkAir and Scoot. As part of the agreement, the airlines have contracted a variety of services and equipment including weather radar, navigation systems, auxiliary power units, predictive maintenance technologies and 24/7 engineering and maintenance support.

Additionally, Singapore Airlines Group and Honeywell have also signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) on Feb. 5, 2018. As part of the MOU, both parties will jointly work to implement and expand best practices for Honeywell’s connected aircraft technologies to proactively find approaches to reduce Singapore Airlines Group’s operational risk, improve efficiencies, and drive predictable and controllable costs through innovative improvements to maximize Honeywell’s product performance and explore revenue growth opportunities for both parties through new and expanded partnerships.

“We understand the multiple challenges that are facing the airline industry, from increasing labor expenses to rising fuel and maintenance costs. Honeywell’s extensive experience in the aviation industry enables us to deliver product knowledge, technologies and support to meet the current and future requirements of the Singapore Airlines Group,” said Brian Davis, vice president, Airlines, Asia Pacific & Aerospace Leader, Honeywell International Sdn Bhd. “Singapore Airlines, SilkAir and Scoot will benefit from Honeywell’s mechanical expertise and software technologies, combined with reliable and consistent services across the three carriers. Additionally, the airlines will not only receive better and more predictive maintenance services that will reduce mechanical delays and cancellations, the use of connectivity and analytics will make flying more efficient and cost effective. This will help the Singapore Airlines Group in further strengthening their world-class services that they are well-known for.”

Details on the contracts awarded:

Singapore Airlines signs a 12-year Honeywell A350 Performance Base Contract

The agreement between Singapore Airlines and Honeywell is the first Airbus A350 Performance Base Contract in the industry. The contract period extends to 12 years and the service will be deployed to 30 Airbus A350s, with options to be deployed to the rest of the A350 fleet. Singapore Airlines will have 24/7 access to support covering all Honeywell content on the plane, including all mechanical and avionics (electronics) products. The program provides connected, end-to-end maintenance and repair service that will ensure on-time departures, manage unscheduled maintenance and provide a better experience for customers of Singapore Airlines. The groundbreaking design of the A350 demands equally impressive upkeep, repair and overhaul solutions to ensure fleets remain operational and efficient.

SilkAir takes strides in proactive maintenance with Honeywell’s Connected Aircraft Services in a 15-year partnership

The 15-year contract with an option to extend for an additional five years is an expanded partnership between SilkAir and Honeywell that leverages Honeywell’s Maintenance Service Agreement Program and GoDirect Connected Maintenance for the airline’s new fleet of Boeing 737 MAX aircraft. GoDirect Connected Maintenance combines the airplane’s connectivity with Honeywell’s in-depth product knowledge and data analytics to predict when mechanical parts, like an auxiliary power unit (APU), need to be fixed or replaced. The program will better predict and manage maintenance cycles, allowing SilkAir to reduce unscheduled downtime and improve reliability of its fleets.

Honeywell helps Scoot future-proof its Airbus A320neo fleet

Honeywell will supply and maintain the APUs and full avionics suite for all of Scoot’s new Airbus A320neo aircrafts. As part of the agreement, Honeywell will also deploy its GoDirect Connected Maintenance Services on the airline’s fleet for a period of 12 years. This is the first Airbus A320 family contract for the GoDirect Connected Maintenance Services, which improves maintenance operations while reducing inoperative equipment rates by using connectivity and data analytics.

Scoot is also updating its Airbus A320neo fleet with Honeywell’s industry-leading avionics, highlighted by the IntuVue RDR-4000 3D Weather Radar system, which provides accurate weather information up to 320 nautical miles in front of the aircraft. Scoot is also procuring Honeywell’s Integrated Multi-Mode Receiver which combines satellite-based and ground-based navigation into one receiver and provides aircraft access to the latest precision navigation and landing capabilities. These upgrades give pilots more accurate and actionable information to make better decisions, ensuring that flights depart and arrive on time. The additional cockpit technologies provided by Honeywell will help Scoot be more efficient with its fleet’s communication, navigation and operational capabilities.
