5G AND SAFE AVIATION CAN COEXIST: THE ALA-52B RADAR ALTIMETER IS THE SOLUTION

Contact us now in order to schedule your upgrade!

You have probably heard of the potential for 5G broadband network signals interfering with radio altimeters in the United States. There is a good reason to be concerned.

Radio altimeters fly on most commercial airliners, providing essential altitude information to flight crews and onboard systems during instrument-based approaches and landings. Interference from 5G signals can cause lost or inaccurate radio altimeter information when it’s needed most to ensure safety during final approach and landing, especially under low-visibility conditions.

Electromagnetic Interference (EMI) testing performed by Honeywell on behalf of the FAA proved the ALA-52B is the only certified radio altimeter currently available on Airbus and Boeing aircraft that can withstand 5G interference.

The ALA-52B is the ideal solution for international carriers that fly widebody aircraft into the U.S.

Designed and manufactured by Honeywell Aerospace Technologies, the ALA-52B Radio Altimeter is part of the Quantum line of communications and navigation radio equipment.

The ALA-52B is a lightweight solid-state airborne radio altimeter that provides accurate digital height measurements above terrain during aircraft approach, landing, and climb-out phases. The operating range is -20 feet to +8000 feet.

The ALA-52B is certified for use on A320/A330 and all Boeing platforms!

Airbus and Boeing have received Alternative Means of Compliance (AMOC) certification from the FAA. This means the Honeywell ALA-52B can be installed with minimal downtime on a wide range of models including the Airbus A318, A319, A320, A321, A330 and A340, and the Boeing 717, 737, 747, 757, 767, 777 and 787.
