Honeywell JetWave Satcom System Approved by CAAC for Air China A321 Modification

Shanghai, Feb. 14, 2022 In collaboration with Honeywell (NASDAQ: HON) and Aircraft Maintenance and Engineering Corporation (Ameco), Ameco successfully obtained the Supplementary Type Certificate (STC) issued by the Civil Aviation Administration of China (CAAC) for the Honeywell MCS-8420 JetWave satellite communications system modification project on Air China A321 aircraft. The success will further promote the development of Chinese domestic in-flight connectivity services, help airlines improve operational efficiency and improve the in-flight passenger experience.

Honeywell MCS-8420 JetWave satellite communications system is designed to connect to China’s Ka-band satellite network and can be applied in connectivity solutions of Chinese airlines’ fleet. With the system installed, fleets can connect to high-speed internet, providing a high-speed Wi-Fi experience to passengers in the sky and helping airline crew better manage the fleet, reducing fuel cost and avoiding delays.

In November 2021, Honeywell’s MCS-8420 JetWave satellite communications system was approved by China Satellite Communications Co., Ltd. (China Satcom) to connect to the Ka-band high-throughput satellite network of China Satcom. In August of the same year, Honeywell and Lufthansa Technology cooperated to obtain the Supplementary Type Approval (VSTC) for the Airbus A320 aircraft issued by CAAC for this type of Satcom system. Its prototype was unveiled in 2018 at the first China International Import Expo (CIIE) and the system was successfully tested on Honeywell’s own Boeing 757 Connected Aircraft in 2019.
