Honeywell and Air China to Share Aviation Knowledge with Youth in Guangxi Area

Honeywell and Air China to Share Aviation Knowledge with Youth in Guangxi Area

  • The Joint Youth Exhibition Hall Aims to Promote Education, Cultivate Innovative Spirit

SHANGHAI, June 18, 2019 – For a decade, Honeywell (NYSE: HON) has been actively participating in poverty-alleviation efforts and fulfilling its corporate social responsibility in China through its Hometown Solutions Program. As Honeywell embarks on the second decade of its poverty-alleviation work in China, the company is partnering with China National Aviation Holding Company (“Air China”) to build the first joint youth aviation exhibition hall in Zhaoping County in Guangxi Province. The goal is to expose and encourage children in remote mountainous regions to explore science, engineering, technology and math education.

The joint youth aviation exhibition hall consists of two sections - “Scientific Knowledge” and “Humanity Knowledge,” with the aim of propagating scientific technology and cultivating the youngsters’ innovative spirit. As part of this project, Honeywell will tap into Air China’s existing talent-training and exchange projects to help train teachers who will have a positive impact in their communities both locally and globally.

“As a state-owned enterprise, Air China is steadfast in our efforts to make full use of corporate resources combined with the cultural characteristics of our designated poverty-alleviation regions,” said Cao Jianxiong, Air China Deputy Secretary of Party Committee. “It’s our honor to provide improvements in basic living conditions and promote education for youth in the poor mountainous regions. We are pleased to further strengthen our cooperation with Honeywell to fulfill our corporate social responsibility in poverty-alleviation work in Guangxi Prefecture.”

Since undertaking poverty-alleviation work in the Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region and Guangxi Autonomous Region in 2013, Air China has been meticulously helping improve living condition for people in Zhaoping County in Guangxi Autonomous Region. With Honeywell’s contributions, the exhibition hall will allow youth in this region to benefit from increased educational opportunities and connections to the world through science and technology.

“The aviation industry is a pearl in the industrial arena and holds the key to grooming science, technology, engineering and math education,” said Steven Lien, President, Honeywell Aerospace, Asia Pacific. “The door to the outside world for youth in regions like Zhaoping County remains closed due to limited educational resources and lack of accessibility to these remote areas. We hope that through the establishment of an Aviation Exhibition Hall, students will have an opportunity to understand the aviation industry, develop a passion for learning and a cultivate the desire to explore.”

Implemented in 2009, Honeywell Hometown Solutions has embraced the mission of providing opportunities to those living below the poverty line and inspiring students around the world to pursue their dreams. During the past 10 years Honeywell Aerospace has responded to a rallying call for poverty-alleviation efforts from the Chinese government and worked with several major partners including AVIC, COMAC, Tibet Airlines, China Eastern Airlines, Erdos Airport Group and Sichuan Airlines. Honeywell Hometown Solutions has traveled to numerous places such as Ningxia’s Xiji, Lhasa of Tibet, Yunnan’s Shuangjiang, Inner Mongolia’s Erdos and Sichuan’s Liangshan, donating nearly 31,000 books, more than 150 computers and other multimedia learning facilities to 17 schools, benefiting over 23,700 students to-date.
