Honeywell to Equip VCOM with Turboprop Engines

Honeywell to Equip VCOM with Turboprop Engines

  • Honeywell’s TPE331-12UAN engines to reduce fuel costs and enable faster takeoff and shorter landings of Y5BG aircraft

ZHUHAI, China, Nov. 6, 2018 - Honeywell (NYSE: HON) has signed an agreement with VCOM Technologies Limited to purchase 11 of its TPE331-12UAN turboprop engines in order to start upgrading its Y5BG aircraft and offer the upgrade for production. The updated engines will improve hot and high-altitude performance, decrease fuel and maintenance costs and improve reliability. In addition, the TPE331 allows for extended overhaul intervals to 7000 hours, demonstrating Honeywell’s commitment to operator satisfaction over the entire product lifecycle.

“Pilots flying with a TPE331-powered engine enjoy exceptional horsepower response and outstanding fuel economy,” said Amit Kaul, Leader of Business and General Aviation, Asian Pacific, Honeywell Aerospace. “Honeywell’s propulsion engine design and development have led the way in performance, reliability and efficiency, and we continue to develop new technologies and improve design to meet the ever-changing needs of our customers.”

Honeywell has obtained a Validation Type Certificate from the Civil Aviation Administration of China for the TPE331-12UAN engine, which ensures the technology meets the safety and security standards of the Chinese government. With over 50 years of dedicated service, the engine has proven its success in the commercial industry with its single-shaft design, which provides better fuel efficiency, better power response and a lower cost of ownership. The engine has a built-in torque and temperature limiting system allowing the flight crew to make power applications that will not result in an over temperature or over torque condition thus eliminating unnecessary operation costs.

“Better cruise speeds and shorter landings equate to fuel savings along with longer intervals between maintenance to reduce overall operating costs,” said, Mr. Liu Hai Dong, President, VCOM. “With the TPE331 engine, the Y5BG aircraft can travel at higher altitudes with more payload for a longer period of time. VCOM has a rigorous selection process when it comes to engines, and we are confident that the engine will deliver excellent performance while enhancing our aircraft capabilities.”

Honeywell’s TPE331 turboprop engine was originally certified for commercial use in 1965. The engine has since branched out to include more than 18 engine models and 106 configurations for use by regional airlines, the agriculture industry and general aviation. With more than 1,650 shaft horsepower in TPE331 engine family, it is a very cost-effective and powerful engine in its class with the much lower cost of ownership. In the last several years the TPE engine has ranked number one according to the AIN Survey.

Customers throughout the industry have relied on its performance and efficiency as proven by more than 13,800 TPE331 engine deliveries and 129 million hours of flight time. The TPE331 engine has also surpassed notable performance and adoption milestones in the unmanned aircraft segment.
