Honeywell Selected by Cathay Pacific Group to Improve Fleet Reliability for More Than 170 Aircraft

Honeywell Selected by Cathay Pacific Group to Improve Fleet Reliability for More Than 170 Aircraft

  • Cathay Pacific Group signs long-term auxiliary power unit maintenance program contract with Honeywell for its Airbus A350s, and extends maintenance contracts across the group’s Airbus A330s and Boeing 777s

SINGAPORE, July 23, 2018 - Honeywell (NYSE: HON) announced today that it has been selected by Cathay Pacific Group to provide long-term maintenance support for the airline’s auxiliary power units across its entire fleet of Airbus A350s. In addition, Cathay Pacific Group has also extended its maintenance program with Honeywell for its entire fleet of Airbus A330s and Boeing 777s. Honeywell’s maintenance programs are customizable service agreements that support each airline’s operational objectives to improve auxiliary power unit reliability while decreasing overall maintenance expenses.

“We are constantly striving to provide our customers with safe, comfortable and reliable air travel, and always interested in exploring new opportunities that help better meet the demands of our customers. Our cooperation with Honeywell has consistently delivered reliable solutions,” said Neil Glenn, director engineering, Cathay Pacific.

“Honeywell’s auxiliary power unit (APU) maintenance program will help Cathay Pacific Group manage the overall cost for APU maintenance, especially with our predictive maintenance solution that enables our customers to effectively project their annual expenditures and increase the efficiency of their fleet,” said Brian Davis, vice president, Airlines, Asia Pacific, Honeywell Aerospace. “Our cooperation with Cathay Pacific Group over the years has produced outstanding results. We are confident that our maintenance program will help the airline improve reliability, achieve significant maintenance cost savings and provide a better experience for passengers.”

In addition to its conventional APU maintenance program, Honeywell’s GoDirect Connected Maintenance program has been successfully implemented in support of Cathay Pacific and Cathay Dragon’s Airbus A330 fleet and is currently being trialed on Cathay Pacific’s Boeing 777 aircraft. This GoDirect program has resulted in a 35 percent reduction in operational disruption caused by A330 APU faults. That, in turn, has reduced costly and disruptive maintenance and aircraft unavailability, as well as flight cancellations and the impact of delays.

Compared with other industry service offerings that share trends and troubleshooting after the failure occurs, Honeywell’s GoDirect Connected Maintenance program delivers actionable recommendations with clear next steps before the failure occurs, helping airlines manage unscheduled maintenance and provide a better experience for passengers.

Over the past year, Honeywell has signed multiple Connected Maintenance agreements with other major airlines in Asia Pacific, such as Hainan Airlines, and Singapore Airline’s SilkAir and Scoot to service their aircraft.

In addition to Connected Maintenance for APUs, Honeywell is looking to expand the service to other parts of the aircraft, including wheels, brakes and environmental control systems.
