Controller Pilot Datalink Communications – Departure Clearance on NGFMS

Controller Pilot Datalink Communications – Departure Clearance on NGFMS

Quick Topic Video

Controller Pilot Datalink Communications - Departure Clearance, or CPDLC-DCL, is quite a mouthful to say. However, the long name is well worth the operational benefit. This quick topic video not only highlights some of the operational benefits but also shows actual FMS interactions and button pushing to demonstrate how to obtain a DCL.

This quick topic video will briefly highlight the following:

  • The difference between CPDLC-DCL and ACARS-DCL
  • Using AOC datalink to load the filed flight plan prior to KUSA logon
  • Getting an “As Filed” clearance
  • Receiving a reroute clearance and using push-to-load to load the new route
  • Why you will never have to misspell a fix name again during a clearance readback (and other benefits over PDC)

The video uses the NGFMS on the Embraer E170/190 to illustrate the examples. However, other NGFMS operators will find benefit in the video as the general operational concepts are consistent across other Honeywell flight decks.
