Honeywell and China Eastern Airlines Sign Memorandum of Understanding for C919 Auxiliary Power Unit Maintenance Repair and Overhaul Services

Honeywell and China Eastern Airlines Sign Memorandum of Understanding for C919 Auxiliary Power Unit Maintenance Repair and Overhaul Services

  • New cooperation will expand MRO capabilities in region, bring more efficient fleet operations

September 28, 2021, Zhuhai, China – Honeywell (NASDAQ: HON) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with China Eastern Airlines at the 13th China International Aviation and Aerospace Exhibition to support the C919 aircraft. Honeywell and China Eastern Airlines will further discuss in-depth cooperation to upgrade its maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO) capability for the Honeywell HGT750 auxiliary power units (APU) installed on the C919 aircraft and establish a complete MRO capability for the HGT750 APU in China. Per the MOU, China Eastern Airlines will undertake MRO service of C919 aircrafts’ APU in the fleet of China Eastern Airlines and other operators once authorized by Honeywell in the near future.

"Honeywell and China Eastern Airlines have had a deep friendship for more than 25 years. The maintenance authorization for domestic large aircraft APU has further deepened the cooperation between us. Honeywell's local team will help China Eastern Airlines ensure the efficient operation of the fleet, to further improve its profitability. The cooperation on building APU maintenance and repair capabilities will also benefit all C919 operators in the future," said Steven Lien, President of Honeywell China and Aerospace Asia Pacific. "China is one of the most dynamic markets in the world, and we will, as always, provide high-quality products and services for local partners, and join hands to make every flight safer and more efficient.”

The HGT750 APU is tailored by Honeywell for this domestic large aircraft and has demonstrated outstanding performance in test flights. With local APU's MRO service, we will greatly reduce the maintenance cycle. A shorter maintenance cycle means less downtime, lower maintenance costs and higher operating efficiency. We are pleased to further cooperate with Honeywell and look forward to the further improvement of China Eastern Airlines' MRO capabilities with Honeywell's support."

Honeywell and China Eastern Airlines have long been cooperating. China Eastern Airlines is qualified to perform maintenance for 131-9A, 131-9B, and 331-350 APUs, and Honeywell provides support including material supply, parts maintenance, and full unit replacement. In addition, at the third China International Import Expo (CIIE), both parties announced that Honeywell will provide 131-9A APUs for the airline’s 36 new Airbus A320NEO aircraft, and will provide training and related services to help them improve their APU maintenance capabilities.

An APU is a critical piece of aircraft equipment that provides electrical power and air conditioning while the plane is on the ground. It helps ensure passenger comfort and supplies the air source before a pilot is ready to start the main engines. Honeywell APU is known for its reliability and lower maintenance costs, which saves significant fuel, ensures the efficient operation of the fleet, improves the profitability of airlines, and enhances the comfort and safety of flight. Honeywell's first APU was put into service in 1950. Up to now, Honeywell has produced more than 100,000 APUs. At present, more than 36,000 APUs in service have been installed separately on more than 150 types of fixed-wing and rotary-wing aircraft in feeder lines, official and commercial fields.
