Honeywell Taps Moore's To Provide Advanced Coatings Technology For Oil & Gas Drilling

Honeywell Taps Moore's To Provide Advanced Coatings Technology For Oil & Gas Drilling

  • Advanced Electroplating Coating will protect high-use equipment and parts from wear and corrosion

PHOENIX, November 19, 2020 – Honeywell has entered into an agreement to allow industrial coatings provider Moore’s Industrial Service Ltd to distribute and apply its advanced electroplating coating for use in demanding conditions within the oil and gas industry. Benefiting from Honeywell’s decades of experience with coatings for aerospace applications, this coating outperforms other materials to protect critical parts from wear and corrosion for longer operational life.

This new coating is applied using a unique electroplating chemistry, which protects the surface of components within a drilling string from abrasion and corrosion. Honeywell’s new offering provides several advantages compared with incumbent coating solutions including up to three times more wear resistance than Chrome. The new coating is harder than before, while also being more durable and less expensive than other offerings. All of this enables customers to extend their drilling hours and lower total operating costs.

“Honeywell’s expertise in developing coatings for the aerospace industry means we are no stranger to the need to protect equipment used in a demanding environment. Premature failure of critical parts can negatively affect performance, efficiency and cost,” said Lea Kiesel, Senior Director of Coatings Solutions, Honeywell Aerospace. “The same is true in the oil and gas industry. We understand our customers’ need to protect vital parts, avoid unexpected maintenance and remain operational and we are proud to be supplying Moore’s with our industry-leading coating technology.”

Within the oil and gas industry, this coating will be used on tools for drilling, such as mud motors, piston housings, mandrels and cavity pumps. It will allow them to run longer without unnecessary or unplanned failures that lead to operational stoppages.

“We are proud to have been asked to work so closely with Honeywell, and thrilled that we’ll be helping companies significantly reduce their drilling costs,” said Rob Newman, CEO, Moore’s Industrial Service Ltd.  “Honeywell’s development of the new coating along with this new agreement is going to open the door for many companies to have stronger and more cost-effective tools than ever before.”

Moore’s Industrial Service Ltd, a family-owned company, was founded in Calgary, Alberta, 74 years ago. It has grown into the specialized niche of industrial coatings. The family-based core value of providing the highest quality products and services to customers is how the company earned its reputation as a world-leader in industrial coatings.

Honeywell has nearly 25 years of experience developing proprietary electroplating technology for demanding environments in the air, on land and at sea in the aerospace and defense industries. Now, the list is expanding to include oil and gas, industrial and other applications where high levels or wear and corrosion resistance are necessary.
