Honeywell's Propulsion and Cockpit Technology Strengthens Wizz Air A320Neo Fleet
- Auxiliary power units and cockpit electronics package selected by Hungarian low-cost carrier to enhance its fleet
Adam Kress
July 10, 2018
ROLLE, Switzerland, July 11, 2018 - Honeywell (NYSE: HON) has been selected by Wizz Air, one of Europe’s fastest-growing airlines, to provide auxiliary power units and a full cockpit avionics suite to equip up to 200 Airbus A320neo aircraft. This selection will help the airline extend the life cycle of its aircraft, reduce operational costs and improve passenger comfort.
“As part of our goal to become the undisputed cost-leading airline in Europe, Wizz Air will shortly take delivery of the latest Airbus A321neo aircraft ordered at the 2015 Paris Air Show,” said József Varadi, chief executive officer at Wizz Air. “We are pleased to confirm a new deal with Honeywell, our trusted long-term partner, to equip these game-changing aircraft with Auxiliary Power Units (APU) and full cockpit avionics. Honeywell’s APUs and avionics already equip the majority of our current A320neo family fleet, and with the new agreement, we will ensure the same high-quality, cost-efficient systems and support for the upcoming A321neo aircraft.”
Wizz Air has also selected Honeywell’s APU Maintenance Service Plan, which will provide the airline with greater peace of mind by letting it better plan maintenance budgets. Wizz Air can benefit from Honeywell’s pay-as-you-go model for increased flexibility and cost savings.
“We are proud to be working with Wizz Air, one of the fastest-growing airlines in the region and a greatly expanding business. It joins a growing list of global carriers selecting Honeywell for its APUs, avionics and exceptional maintenance support,” said David Shilliday, vice president, Airlines Aftermarket - EMEAI, Honeywell Aerospace. “Unscheduled maintenance and costly repairs can be devastating, but our proven technology and support help curb those worries so that Wizz Air can focus on offering passengers comfortable, low-cost flights while minimizing disruptions.”
Honeywell is the world’s largest manufacturer of APUs, which can be found on many leading aircraft, including regional, executive, commercial and military platforms. APUs are primarily used to power an airplane during ground operations, providing electricity, air conditioning and main engine starting.
