Honeywell Launches a New APU Engine Rental Bank Service for Airbus A330 and A340 Aircraft

Honeywell Launches a New APU Engine Rental Bank Service for Airbus A330 and A340 Aircraft

  • Logix Aero will loan Honeywell’s 331-350C series auxiliary power units to operators.

ROLLE, Switzerland, Feb. 1, 2018 - Honeywell (NYSE: HON) has joined forces with rental dealership Logix Aero to provide an auxiliary power unit Engine Rental Bank that loans Honeywell’s 331-350C auxiliary power units to operators with Airbus A330 and A340 aircraft.

“There is an increasing need for local services to help operators maintain their aircraft, and customers are looking toward rental dealerships to provide short-term and long-term APU rental solutions,” said Jean-Christian Morin, president, Logix Aero. “We’re working with Honeywell to provide airlines with rentals for Airbus A330 and A340 aircraft when they need them and without having contractual obligations toward the repair of their core units.”

The agreement permits operators to rent, rather than purchase, an auxiliary power unit (APU) with the added benefit of allowing them to use the maintenance service of their choice for existing equipment. This removes the need to prepare separate contracts with Honeywell for APU purchase, upkeep, and repair, helping to save on costs and reduce downtime.

Working with Logix Aero will see Honeywell deliver its 331-350APUs to operators without a direct repair contract for the first time. Customers can choose to rent over a period that addresses their business and operational needs, whether on a short-term basis to cover maintenance time on existing equipment, or over a longer-term.APUs are flown by the operators during the loan period and returned to Logix Aero when it ends.

“Unscheduled engine and APU maintenance can lead to aircraft downtime and flight cancellations. Renting an APU through Honeywell’s Engine Rental Bank, implemented by Logix Aero, will cost significantly less than ordering a new one to cover repairs to existing equipment,” said Randy Anderson, president, Europe, Middle East, Africa, and India Aftermarket, Honeywell Aerospace. “This agreement allows airlines to plan aircraft upkeep ahead of time while providing an alternative solution to ensure customers can continue operations locally without worrying about unplanned costs.”

Honeywell is the world’s largest manufacturer of APUs, which are found on many leading aircraft, including regional, executive, commercial and military platforms.APUs are primarily used to power an airplane during ground operations, providing electricity, air conditioning, main engine starting and more. They also provide backup electrical power during flights.
