September 17, 2017
Honeywell (NYSE: HON) and China Civil Aviation Science Popularization Foundation donated a LED wireframe model of Honeywell's Connected Aircraft to Civil Aviation Management Institute of China. The donation is part of an ongoing endeavor by the three parties to jointly promote industry-leading aviation technologies in China and to continue inspiring innovation for the country's aviation industry. Wei Jincai, vice president of China Civil Aviation Science Popularization Foundation, Sun Xiaomei, principal of Civil Aviation Management Institute of China, and Robert Xu of Honeywell Aerospace attended the donation ceremony.
China ranks second-largest and is the fastest-growing market in the worldwide civil aviation industry, with more than 10% annual growth rate of passenger transport by 2020. Along with rapid growth comes a string of challenges, which can be addressed by innovative technologies. Therefore, aerospace has been named one of the critical fields that need technology breakthroughs in China's national 13th Five-Year Plan. In the light of the national strategy, CAAC indicated in its Civil Aviation Development 13th Five-Year Plan that to further develop the country's civil aviation industry, a transition from resource-driven to innovation-driven technologies is needed. This initiative also aligns with China's national strategy to build an innovation-driven economy and society by 2020.
As a leading higher-level educational institution directly under the CAAC, the Civil Aviation Management Institute of China (CAMIC) has inspired diversification of thought and creativity by adopting new educational tools, hosting scientific conferences and implementing various training seminars in the past 35 years. More than 90 percent of Chinese civil aviation enterprises have received scientific research consultation from the institute, and more than 150 scientific research projects have been made annually. Most recently, CAMIC has built a laboratory, where the Connected Aircraft model is showcased, to become an incubator for innovation and technological achievement in country.
Being a long-term partner with CAMIC, Honeywell brings in its innovation DNA and more than 100 years of technology expertise. The latest Connected Aircraft technologies represent Honeywell's ability to use its aerospace heritage to apply the Internet of Things into industrial-leading implementations for aviation. Honeywell is ramping up its software and innovation capabilities to lead the trend of Internet of Things with the Connected Aircraft for smarter and more efficient decision-making across the industry. Through its connected services offerings, from nose-to-tail and air-to-ground, Honeywell is modernizing aviation services and bringing the comprehensive Connected Aircraft to life.
Honeywell is looking to work with CAMIC, China Civil Aviation Science Popularization Foundation, and additional Chinese organizations to further support the innovation development of China's aviation industry.
