Wideroe Flies into Future with Embraer and Smartview

When Widerøe took delivery of the first Embraer E190-E2 jetliner April 4, Scandinavia’s largest regional airline gave its pilots an exciting new way to look outside the cockpit. It’s the SmartView synthetic vision system from Honeywell and the E190-E2 is the first airliner to offer this innovative system as a customer-specified option.

The SmartView system gives Widerøe flight crews a critical new tool to improve flight safety and efficiency. The system uses a unique database to create a highly accurate 3-D view of the world outside the cockpit, which is shown on the pilot’s primary flight displays. The image includes surrounding terrain, obstacles and runways overlaid with easy-to-interpret flight instrument information.

SmartView provides a perfect view all the time to enhance situational awareness, reduce cockpit workload and improve pilot confidence. It’s ideal for flying at night and under the low visibility conditions often encountered by pilots flying in Scandinavia.

The synthetic vision system is the perfect complement to the other Honeywell advanced avionics systems that make the Embraer E190-E2 safer and more efficient. The world’s newest airliner comes fully equipped with the Primus Epic advanced avionics system, Next-Gen Flight Management System, weather radar and advanced navigation technology.

With all these systems onboard, Honeywell is playing a key role in improving pilot efficiency and creating a great flying experience for Widerøe passengers.

Everyone at Honeywell joins Embraer in congratulating Widerøe on the newest addition to its fleet. We’re proud to provide our advanced cockpit technology to this remarkable jetliner.
