Next-Generation EASy IV Flight Deck Ready to Take Off

Next-Generation EASy IV Flight Deck Ready to Take Off
The newest version of Dassault Aviation’s aptly named EASy flight deck will take flight this year on the new Falcon 6X ultra widebody business jet. It’s already flying as a retrofit on several Falcon 8X aircraft, and soon will be available to upgrade the Falcon 7X. The cockpit also will be delivered on new Falcon 8Xs.
EASy IV has received rave reviews from customers, including one pilot whose company installed it on a Falcon 8X in December. He said he was impressed by the flight deck’s bright, easy-to-view displays, and that it helped reduce pilot workload.
"This is a big step for safety," he said. “Especially on the ground where you can now see airport traffic on the navigation display. It's a big improvement in foggy or low light conditions, allowing you to see even transponder-equipped fuel trucks. The ADS-B is also great for identifying traffic in the air and enhancing situational awareness during visual approaches."
Like earlier versions of the EASy cockpit, which set a high bar when it debuted two decades ago, the EASy IV is based on the latest Honeywell Primus Epic integrated avionics system.
EASy IV – the EASy stands for Enhanced Avionics System – lives up to its name by giving pilots a cockpit that is both highly capable and intuitive. It features vivid displays, more processing power, new capabilities, and added safety features.
The EASy IV flight deck is all about enhanced situational awareness, streamlined operations and improved operational safety.
Enhanced Situational Awareness
EASy IV sets the standard for situational awareness by giving pilots one of the best views ever of where they are and where they’re headed in three dimensions. It incorporates an advanced interactive navigation (INAV) map that makes it easy to see airspace restrictions and terrain resolution. Combined with a new interactive vertical situation display (VSD), the INAV also gives pilots a clear view of thunderstorm development.
The new flight deck allows pilots to layer navigation, weather and traffic displays so all the information they need is front and center. At the airport, intuitive 3D and 2D moving maps provide a clear picture of runways, taxiways, ramps, and other features, making ground navigation safer and easier, even in low-visibility conditions.
Honeywell’s latest traffic collision avoidance system (TCAS) includes ADS-B In and Out for superior awareness of traffic in the air and on the airport map. In addition, operators can add SiriusXM® weather products for current weather information in the U.S., Canada and the Caribbean.
Streamlined Operations
Honeywell’s NextGen flight management system gives EASy IV pilots unprecedented capabilities, including the ability to fly into airports with challenging approaches using the latest navigational performance-authorization required (RNP-AR) procedures. EASy IV also includes unique graphical flight planning capabilities for modifying flight plans quickly and safely, and monitoring weather, terrain and air traffic.
New graphic datalink features enable seamless communication between pilots and air traffic controllers in all phases of flight. The latest Jeppesen chart features are also included, with a special night mode that keeps an even light level on the flight deck during night approaches. Charts feature a new panoramic mode and an aircraft symbol georeferenced to approach charts, giving pilots another valuable situational awareness cue.
Advanced auto-throttle capabilities are standard features on the EASy IV flight deck for the Falcon 8X, and are available as an upgrade on the Falcon 7X. The enhanced auto-throttle feature reduces pilot workload in the event of an inflight engine shutdown by letting pilots secure one engine while retaining automation on the other two.
Improved Operational Safety
The same EASy IV features than enable streamlined operations and advanced situational awareness are major contributors to operational safety – always the top priority in business aviation.
The new flight deck includes an improved takeoff and landing data (TOLD) function, enabling additional inputs for more precise calculations of realistic landing distances, which will meet new EASA and FAA requirements for landing distance at the time of arrival (LTDA).
A new runway overrun and alerting system (ROAAS) analyzes aircraft trajectory and TOLD performance to determine if the aircraft can come to a full stop within the remaining runway length. Early primary flight display alerts improve pilot awareness of runway end margin, ensuring safer approaches and go-arounds.
Ready to Make History in 2023
Dassault Aviation is taking a giant leap forward with the Falcon 6X and the fourth-generation EASy IV flight deck, which checks all the boxes for enhanced situational awareness, streamlined operations and improved operational safety.
EASy IV is the product of two leading aviation companies – Dassault and Honeywell – coming together with one mission: To deliver the best possible flying experience for Falcon operators, pilots and passengers.
