Making Innovation Count for Value Creation

Making Innovation Count for Value Creation

Curiosity is the engine of intellectual achievement and this is what drives Yogesha Aralakuppe Ramegowda, Engineering Fellow at Honeywell Aerospace in Bengaluru, India. From spending time in listening to Hindustani classical music during his leisure time, while developing machine learning and artificial intelligence techniques for aerospace, Yogesha’s career journey, passion for his work and going beyond has been truly inspirational.

Since 1998, when he first joined Honeywell, Yogesha has been passionate about all the technology and products Honeywell has to offer for the aerospace industry. The thought that his work can help millions of people travel safe and connect with their loved ones every day, inspires him to explore and contribute more to the aviation industry and create value.

ABOUT HIS CAREER JOURNEY: Reflecting on his career journey of two decades, Yogesha mentions, “I always wanted to pursue a technical career with an organization which has a strong innovation legacy. I wanted to be mentored by some of the greatest talent that the industry has to offer. It has been an exciting journey at Honeywell. I have had the opportunity to be a software engineer, project leader and a staff engineer. I have supported global programs for environmental control system, electric power, flight management systems, flight controls and display products. My interest in deepening technical knowledge and solving technical problems led me to follow a technical career path at Honeywell.”

Yogesha says, “It is a great honor being recognized as a Honeywell Aerospace Fellow in 2018. I feel privileged being part of this exemplary organization which has allowed me to test the boundaries of technology, contribute to business, exhibit the 8 Honeywell behaviors and build a technical career that I had always aspired for.”

ABOUT HIS WORK: As an Engineering Fellow, Yogesha focuses on software validation, testing and integrating the emerging technologies like internet of things (IoT), blockchain, artificial intelligence, machine learning, natural language processing, image and video processing, robotic process automation, augmented and virtual reality, formal methods for automating connected devices. Yogesha has been also at the forefront of providing technical leadership to major Aerospace growth programs with his deep experience and expertise. He has been instrumental in performing competitive intelligence, exploring and developing future technologies and methodologies that drive program cost optimization, cycle time reduction in the areas of test strategy, design, automation, simulation process, formal methods, model based testing, certification and others. He also has been active and influential in establishing an impactful network with the external eco-system such as industry bodies and academic institutions that overlaps Honeywell’s strategic business areas.

Working with a global team allows Yogesha to collaborate with a diverse workforce which enables him to mature ideas further. In return, he also partners, mentors and guides technologists ensuring improvements in the innovation quality and patents value during the new product introduction process. He encourages new engineers to join in the ideation process, inspiring them to look beyond and be successful in their respective careers.

INNOVATION SHOULD BE HELPFUL: Yogesha believes in solving real problems through innovation. Innovation does not mean that an individual need to have a patent. Value creation during the product development process or testing is also innovation. Understanding a problem in depth, pushing forward for learning and making possibilities happen – that’s value creation for customers.

KEEP LEARNING, THINK BIG AND MAKE IT HAPPEN: Reminiscing what worked in his career, he feels learning, collaboration and networking is a lifetime affair. In his opinion, purpose and passion for technologies, relentless focus and perseverance are key in transforming an idea into a solution. “We should continue to invest in learning irrespective of age. The Aerospace industry is never short of problems but prioritizing the vital ones, channelizing all resources and energy for resolving it one by one is what counts,” says Yogesha.

“Leveraging data is key to innovation and transforming the way we make decisions. Honeywell is on the cusp of a digital transformation journey blending physical products with software. I am happy to play my part in the organization’s future digital transformation, contributing to emerging technologies that address world’s critical challenges and make flight travel safer and comfortable,” concludes Yogesha.
