Honeywell Analytics Spur Fuel Efficiency at Japan Airlines

Honeywell Analytics Spur Fuel Efficiency at Japan Airlines

Japan Airlines is taking its fuel efficiency efforts to the next level via partnering with Honeywell. Japan’s flag carrier has been using Honeywell’s advanced data analytics solution –GoDirect Flight Efficiency – for about two years with excellent results. JAL is the first airline in the Asia Pacific region to use the Honeywell solution.

GoDirect Flight Efficiency delivers fuel savings in the 1-3 percent range or higher. That means that, based on the airline’s 2017 fuel expenses of nearly $2 billion, the airline is seeing fuel saving opportunity between $20 million and $60 million per year – maybe more – by using the solution.

JAL has an excellent worldwide reputation for professionalism, efficiency and social responsibility. A thought-leader in fuel efficiency, JAL will host the OneWorld Fuel Efficiency Conference in February, with representatives of all 13 OneWorld airlines attending.

GoDirect Flight Efficiency has become an important part of JAL’s wide-ranging fuel conservation program that also includes adding more fuel-efficient aircraft like the Boeing 777, 787 and 737-800 to the fleet. Other elements of the program including reducing aircraft weight wherever possible, washing engines to reduce weight and enhance performance, flying the most direct routes possible and training pilots to use Eco-Flight procedures during all phases of flight.

Honeywell leverages big data and the Industrial Internet of Things to give operators like JAL the solutions they need to reduce fuel consumption, improve operational outcomes and increase profits. The Honeywell solution brings together data from hundreds of sources on and off the aircraft and displays it in an easy-to-use format so airline decision-makers know how the choices they make impact fuel use and schedule performance.

The platform uses airline data, which is then checked, analyzed, aggregated and presented in an easy-to-understand format. Honeywell provides the answers airlines need to unlock their full fuel-savings potential.

GoDirect Flight Efficiency helps airlines like JAL create a fuel-efficiency initiative to maximize their profits and create a great passenger experience. More than three dozen of the world’s top airlines are already using the GoDirect Flight Efficiency platform. You can learn more at GoDirect Flight Efficiency.
