How to Upgrade Your Obsolete Satcom Equipment with Constant Aviation

A recent Honeywell analysis found that hundreds of business aircraft, including Gulfstream, Global Express, Challenger and Falcon, are operating with MCS 3000/6000 SATCOM systems containing obsolete SD-600 Satellite Data Units (SDU). Because of this obsolescence, should the SD-600 SDU fail, it cannot be repaired or exchanged, leaving the aircraft unable to operate in FANS 1/A airspace.

What Should Operators with Aging SATCOM Systems Do?

Be Proactive! If you are operating with an aging SATCOM system and are looking to mitigate and/or avoid the risk associated with potential SD-600 failures, consider upgrading to the SD-700 SDU with Constant Aviation, an Authorized Honeywell Dealer with MRO facilities nationwide.

As an alternative, operators can address the SD-600 obsolescence by upgrading to the MCS-7120 system, which features the HD-710, a combined SDU and High Power Amplifier. Additionally, two channels of Inmarsat Swiftbroadband allow passengers to stay connected from the moment they board the aircraft until they deplane.

In 2018, the U.S. Government approved a tax code change that allows U.S. based aircraft owners using their aircraft for business purposes to write off 100% of the upgrade costs in the first year.
