Honeywell's Connected Aircraft Gains Momentum as Demand for Connectivity Grows in Asia Pacific

Honeywell's Connected Aircraft Gains Momentum as Demand for Connectivity Grows in Asia Pacific

  • Honeywell is installing JetWave at a growing rate in the Asia Pacific, reducing installation cost and time for business jet operators and owners in the region.

Honeywell's (NYSE: HON) JetWave satellite communications hardware, which powers Inmarsat's Jet ConneX service for the Connected Aircraft, is now installed aboard 25 business jets across the Asia Pacific region. This includes major aircraft platforms such as the Gulfstream G550 and G650 and Bombardier Global 6000. To date, Honeywell has delivered over 1,000 JetWave systems across the commercial airline and business aviation sectors, with 250 installations completed for commercial airlines worldwide, and more than 100 installations on popular Bombardier, Dassault and Gulfstream business jets. JetWave allows business jet passengers to enjoy reliable, high-speed, global in-flight Wi-Fi that is comparable to what they are used to in the office or at home.

"In Asia Pacific, business travelers are demanding better in-flight Wi-Fi, with most willing to pay a premium for faster connectivity. Honeywell sees the Asia Pacific region as one of the key demand drivers for in-flight connectivity services in business aviation," said Andy Gill, senior director, Business and General Aviation, Asia Pacific, Honeywell Aerospace. "As part of our long-term strategy, business jet operators and owners in the region will no longer have to fly their aircraft to the U.S. for JetWave installation, knowing we now offer local installations across Asia Pacific. This reduces installation time and cost."

JetWave allows business jets to connect to Inmarsat's Global Xpress Ka-band service Jet ConneX, the most consistent, global high-speed broadband service for business jets. Jet ConneX is Honeywell's connectivity service brand name for the business aviation market, and offers data plans with speeds of up to 15 Mbps. This allows passengers to videoconference, transfer large files, go online, stream videos and do anything else they could do on the ground – all at 40,000 feet. Jet ConneX also brings operators one step closer to the Connected Aircraft with the availability of Honeywell's GoDirect services, which provides pilots and operators with the information they need to manage their flight operations and network.
