“What it Takes” Series Looks at the Propulsion and Power Systems of Urban Air Mobility

“What it Takes” Series Looks at the Propulsion and Power Systems of Urban Air Mobility

Defying gravity takes energy. Lots and lots of energy.

That inescapable fact has long frustrated designers of electric aircraft. But now things are beginning to change.

Batteries are getting lighter and more powerful. Airframe materials are lighter, and motors are more efficient.

The third episode of our video series “What it Takes,” examines these and other advances in electric and hybrid-electric propulsion that are fueling a new race to develop urban air mobility vehicles.

“This electric propulsion technology, gives us the ability to have a greener aircraft, so we’re putting less emissions into the air,” Honeywell’s Amanda King says in this episode. In addition, she notes, electric aircraft are far quieter than other types of aircraft.

Want to learn more about the tech behind urban air mobility? Watch our continuing series, sign up for updates or tell us about your project through our Urban Air Mobility systems page.
