Honeywell JetWave Satellite Communications System Approved for China Satcom Ka-Band High Throughput Satellite Network

Honeywell JetWave Satellite Communications System Approved for China Satcom Ka-Band High Throughput Satellite Network

  • System can be applied on a large scale for commercial flights to enhance the competitiveness of airlines and improve passenger experience

Shanghai, Nov. 23, 2021 Honeywell’s (NASDAQ: HON) MCS-8420 JetWave Satellite Communications System has been approved by China Satellite Communications Co., Ltd. (China Satcom) to connect to the Ka-band high-throughput satellite network of China Satcom. It is the world’s first Ka-band satellite communications system that passed China Satcom’s testing process and obtained approval.

With this certificate, JetWave can be installed on a large scale on certified aircraft models, paving the way for airlines to enable high-speed and consistent connectivity in the air, thus improving the passenger experience. It will further enhance Chinese airlines’ competitiveness and profitability in the global aviation market. Honeywell is actively engaging with several Chinese airlines to discuss the deployment of high-speed in-flight Internet access.

“I am pleased to see that the cooperation between Honeywell and China Satcom has taken a big step forward. Honeywell’s satellite communications system will help Chinese airlines achieve high-speed in-flight connectivity, establishing their differentiated market competitiveness,” said Steven Lien, president of Honeywell China and Aerospace Asia Pacific, “Honeywell has been deeply involved in the development of China’s aviation industry in recent years, so we are proud of this achievement with our Chinese partners. Honeywell looks forward to continuously working with partners in the future to support China's aviation industry move towards digitalization and achieving sustainable development.”

Honeywell MCS-8420 JetWave Satellite Communications System is designed to connect to China’s Ka-band satellite network and can be applied in connectivity solutions of Chinese airlines’ fleet. With the system installed, fleets can connect to high-speed internet, providing a high-speed Wi-Fi experience to passengers in the sky and helping airline crew better manage the fleet, reducing fuel cost and avoiding delays.

Honeywell’s MCS-8420 JetWave Satellite Communications System prototype was unveiled in 2018 at the first China International Import Expo (CIIE). In 2019, the system was successfully tested on Honeywell’s own Boeing 757 Connected Aircraft. In August 2021, the system obtained the Validation of Supplemental Type Certificate (VSTC) by the Civil Aviation Administration of China (CAAC), making it available as a connectivity solution on the Airbus A320 fleet in China.
