SmartRunway® and SmartLanding®

A software option for EGPWS, SmartRunway®/SmartLanding® improves crew situational and positional awareness to minimize runway incursions and excursions.

Introduced in 2003, Honeywell’s Runway Awareness and Advisory System (RAAS) is a software option for Enhanced Ground Proximity Warning Systems (EGPWS) that improves flight crew situational and positional awareness to minimize the potential of runway incursions.  Building on the success and operational experience of RAAS, in 2009 Honeywell introduced SmartRunway® and SmartLanding®.  One key feature of SmartRunway® and SmartLanding® is the addition of visual messaging, which allows installation flexibility, giving pilots timely information and a quieter cockpit environment.  Available to operators of aircraft equipped with EGPWS MK V, MKV-A, MK VII or Epic Enhanced Ground Proximity Warning Module (EGPWM) through simple and fast software upgrades.

Capitalizing on the accuracy of Honeywell’s worldwide terrain and runway database, which has proven itself for over 800 million flight hours, this suite of advisories and alerts compliment electronic flight bag (EFB) solutions through heads-up aurals

SmartLanding® addresses the leading causes of runway excursions, aircraft on approach that are too high, too fast, or not properly configured for landing.  Complementing SOPs and FOQA programs, SmartLanding® improves safety by encouraging compliance with stabilized approach criteria between 1000 and 500 feet above the field, and alerting to long landings and taxiway landings.
