Honeywell Hometown Solutions Inspires Aviation Dreams for Students in Inner Mongolia

Honeywell continues its commitment to education modernization in China, benefiting nearly 20,000 students across 10 provinces over eight years

SHANGHAI, Sept. 6, 2016 – Honeywell (NYSE: HON) is improving educational opportunities and fueling the aviation dreams of more than 600 students at two remote schools in Ordos, Inner Mongolia. The Ordos Airport Administration Group, China Civil Aviation Science Popularization Foundation and China Aviation News Press are partnering with Honeywell in this effort.

Honeywell Hometown Solutions, the company’s corporate responsibility initiative, recently opened two Honeywell Multimedia Learning Centers at the schools. A formal donation ceremony was held at the Central Primary School in Zhaojun County on Sept. 6.

As part of the project, Honeywell donated 4,000 textbooks along with computers and other multimedia education tools. The goal is to create modern learning environments and to provide students and teachers with resources to improve science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) education.

Honeywell Hometown Solutions is following in the footsteps of Inner Mongolia’s Ten Full Coverage project, which aims to provide 10 basic public services across the region. Development of education is a cornerstone of this initiative.

“Across Inner Mongolia, there are steps being taken to help modernize education by providing the resources that students today need to become more knowledgeable in science and technology,” said Jiandong Liu, secretary chairman of Ordos Airport Administration Group. “We are grateful for Honeywell’s enthusiasm in bringing this event to life, creating an opportunity for children in Ordos to go on to bright futures in science and aviation.”

“At Honeywell, innovative thinking is at the core of what we do, so we recognize that inspiring and preparing the next generation of science leaders from an early age is incredibly important for the future of our industry,” said Steven Lien, president, Asia Pacific, Honeywell Aerospace. “This year, we were delighted to bring Honeywell Hometown Solutions to Ordos, where we equipped students with learning tools that will support their STEM education and inspire them to become future thinkers and leaders in the aviation industry.”

Following the ceremony, Honeywell held a session to educate and inspire local students to seek careers in science and aviation. Honeywell representatives and media volunteers talked to students about their personal career experiences and told inspiring aviation stories.

As part of its ongoing commitment to educate, inspire and support the Mongolian schools, Honeywell will invite students from Ordos to its research and development center in Shanghai next year.

“I am so excited that I have the opportunity to use a computer for the very first time,” said An, a fifth-grade student. “There is so much that I want to explore, and the media volunteers taught us how to use the computer to learn more about the subjects we are interested in, read and do our homework.”

Many more students like An now have access to improved learning environments and brand new horizons, with the support of Honeywell Hometown Solutions. Each year, Honeywell leverages cooperation with different Chinese organizations to support local communities, educate and empower students, and give every dream the wings needed to fly high.

Over the past eight years, Honeywell has donated approximately 31,000 books and more than 100 computers to schools in Xiji, Ningxia; Shuangjiang, Yunan; Mianyang, Sichuan; Lhasa, Tibet; Nanjing, Jiangsu; and Beijing. Approximately 19,100 students in China have benefited from the program to date.
