Honeywell to Showcase Advanced Technologies at ABACE2016

From cockpit to cabin, Honeywell technologies and connectivity solutions support Asia Pacific business aviation clients

SHANGHAI, April 7, 2016 – Honeywell Aerospace (NYSE: HON) will showcase a range of its business aviation and commercial helicopter offerings at the 2016 Asian Business Aviation Conference & Exhibition (ABACE2016), taking place April 12–14 at the Shanghai Hawker Pacific Business Aviation Service Centre (booth P122). In addition, Honeywell will present the latest findings from its annual Turbine-Powered Civil Helicopter Purchase Outlook and its annual Global Business Aviation Outlook, offering insights into the business and general aviation industry for China and the Asia Pacific region.

“Many global markets have been impacted in the slow-growth economic environment, including business aviation. While operators’ purchasing plans are more reserved, we continue to see additional aftermarket opportunities for existing aircraft, especially around safety and connectivity for business jets, and mission management and reliability for commercial helicopters,” said Andy Gill, senior director, Asia Pacific, Business and General Aviation, Honeywell Aerospace. “With global services and advanced technologies, Honeywell is well-positioned to help current fixed-wing and rotary-wing fleets provide increased value to their owners while improving the availability of regionally available maintenance, modifications and upgrades.”

Recently, Honeywell launched its Primus Elite flight deck, which will be displayed at the Honeywell booth. This market-leading cockpit upgrade system is available for business aircraft, including the Bombardier Global Express Citation X, Dassault Falcon 900C/EX, Embraer Legacy 600/650 and Gulfstream G-IV/GV. The Primus Elite system replaces traditional cathode ray-tube (CRT) displays with liquid-crystal displays (LCDs) and provides significant value to owners, operators and pilots by enabling increased aircraft value, improved safety, increased reliability, reduced weight and lower cost of ownership. Primus Elite provides the same features and safety benefits as the most sophisticated cockpits in operation today, including XM graphical weather, Jeppesen electronic charts and maps, and video display capability.

With Honeywell’s Ovation Select and an Inmarsat Swift Broadband Satellite Communications system, business jet passengers can access email and high-speed internet, as well as host video conferences and make telephone calls while in the air. Honeywell’s JetWave hardware, which was recently certified by Transport Canada, enables Bombardier business jet operators and passengers to consistently stay connected anywhere in the world to fast and consistent Wi-Fi even when they are flying over water on long-haul flights.

Honeywell’s technologies and products enable a range of innovative connectivity and communication solutions that improve flight safety and operational efficiency for business aircraft. This includes Honeywell’s award-winning Weather Information Service app for real-time weather information. The app replaces traditional weather data services, which often leave operators relying on preflight paper forecasts and limited radio updates from air traffic control. As a result, pilots could be using information that is hours old and has been superseded by new weather information by the time it’s really needed. Recent updates to the Weather Information Service have expanded on the available data to include pilot reports and weather observations from other aircraft. For example, if the pilot of another aircraft reports encountering icing or turbulence, that report is automatically passed on to other aircraft in the area — if their flight crews are using Weather Information Service-equipped flight bags. The app even collects data on lightning strikes, gathered from satellite-based sensors, and reports them through the app. Unlike forecast data that can cover a wide area, Weather Information Service features give pilots information specific to the airspace in which they’re flying and all along their projected route.

Last November, Honeywell's new Wireless Data Loader for Primus Epic cockpits received Technical Standard Order authorization from the Federal Aviation Administration. The Wireless Data Loader enables secure wireless connectivity to an aircraft and supports mobile apps such as MyMaintainer that allows maintenance personnel to wirelessly access information at the gate and perform fault analysis. This will improve maintenance cycles, cut downtime, make work easier for the ground crew, enable multitasking and reduce costs for operators.

Honeywell Highlights at ABACE2016

Event attendees will be able to interact with and learn more about Honeywell advanced technologies, including:

  • Ovation Select cabin management system offers business aviation passengers a broad range of cabin entertainment, control and integrated communications to meet the demands of their busy schedules, all at their fingertips.
  • Primus Elite flight deck is a unique and specifically developed LCD upgrade for CRT form-and-fit displays. Highly reliable LCDs replace existing CRT displays, adding powerful graphical capability, improved reliability, more efficient operations and increased aircraft value.
  • Virtual reality headsets let visitors experience the full range of Honeywell business aviation technologies, from the cockpit to the cabin.
  • Satellite communication hardware allows flight crews and passengers to stay connected during every phase of the flight and enables seamless, high-speed internet up to 50 Mbps over land and water.
  • IntuVue 3-D Weather Radar is the world’s first and only 3-D weather radar. It can enhance flight safety by providing predictive hail and lightning capabilities and turbulence detection up to 60 nautical miles ahead — 50 percent farther than any other system.
