Recent licensing agreement allows AVID to bring Honeywell’s unmanned vehicle technology to the civil market
Honeywell Aerospace (NYSE: HON) and AVID LLC, an aeronautical engineering specialist, have signed a licensing agreement that enables AVID to use and sell Honeywell’s T-Hawk Micro Air Vehicle and Commercial Ducted Unmanned Vehicle technology for commercial, industrial and military applications.
Honeywell’s T-Hawk Micro Air Vehicle (MAV) provides real-time situational awareness and support to personnel in hazardous environments. The unmanned MAV, which is roughly 20lbs and operates with a distinct noise, is easily assembled and deployed, requires minimal training, and is fully operational during the day or night and in most weather conditions.
The T-Hawk’s combat-proven reliability and support for advanced intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance missions has made the vehicle an ideal choice to support emergency workers at Japan’s Fukushima Daiichi nuclear power plant and soldiers deployed in Iraq and Afghanistan. Closer to home, Honeywell’s Commercial Ducted Unmanned Vehicle (cDUV) is designed to provide operational support for civilian organizations, including fire, police, and search and rescue teams.
