Thirty stops. Eighteen countries. Five continents. One fearless woman.
In 2014, Shaesta founded Dreams Soar to share her story with women around the world, to let them know it is possible to achieve their dreams, regardless of the challenges presented to them.
Born in a refugee camp, Shaesta Waiz and her family traveled from Afghanistan to America in 1987 to escape the Soviet‐Afghan war. She grew up in an underprivileged school district where sharing textbooks and watching friends drop out of school was the norm.
After discovering aviation, she started thinking about a career and attending college. After a long journey and believing in herself, Shaesta became the first certified civilian female pilot from Afghanistan and the first person in her family to earn a bachelor’s and master’s degree. She is proof that no obstacle is too big to overcome in achieving your dreams.
On May 13th, 2017, Shaesta embarked on a solo flight to partner with strong female role models across the globe to share and promote the importance of STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) education.
Flying close to 25,000 nautical miles is easier when you can stay connected, which Shaesta will be able to do using the BendixKing AeroWave system. Weather problems? No problem as the Honeywell Weather Information System apps used onboard will provide real-time weather data and flight path optimizations. These are a just a few of the Honeywell and BendixKing services and products enabling a safe and successful Dreams Soar journey.
Together, Honeywell and Dreams Soar share a common mission to inspire our next generation of engineers, innovators and scientists. Honeywell Aerospace products and services are found on virtually every aircraft, including that of a fearless young woman pursing a solo flight around the world to educate and motivate girls to pursue their dreams.
