We took the opportunity to talk to Richard Lalor the Engineering Director for Abu Dhabi Aviation the largest commercial helicopter operator in the Middle East to understand their maintenance schedule and if Honeywell Avionics Protection Plan (HAPP) could be a solution.
Abu Dhabi Aviation (ADA) has been in business for 40 years with a fleet of 61 helicopters, their primary role is off shore, EMS which is Emergency Medical Service and ad-hoc for general purpose flights. Since opening in 1976 they are now approaching the 1,000,000 flight hour’s mark.
ADA operates the AW139 in their fleet and in the words of Richard Lalor “helicopters grounded due to lack of parts can be very expensive. Two elements to replacing parts; there's a scheduled requirement and then there's unscheduled. The scheduled requirement is set by the Original End Manufactures (OEM). The un-scheduled, is where you'll do an inspection on the aircraft and with that inspection you may find a defect. And so a component will be replaced. The environment in the Middle East has a massive influence, for replacing of parts because of the heat and humidity, helicopters have a lot of components, turning and operating so you always find that you're replacing parts.”
For those unscheduled maintenance replacements Honeywell Avionics Protection Plan (HAPP) on the AW139 can offer full coverage. Let’s make sure you take off HAPPy!
