Business aircraft passengers have high expectations when it comes to accessing content, even as they soar 20,000 feet above the ground. Connectivity interruptions are entirely unwelcome, especially in the middle of an online meeting or when someone is trying to send an important email. Often, the cause of the service interruption remains a mystery and users are forced to cross their fingers and hope that the problem resolves itself.
Honeywell Aerospace has developed a new application that makes it fast and easy for passengers, pilots or flight attendants to check the onboard Wi-Fi network status and find ways to restore connectivity when it goes down.
Residing on an iPad or iPhone, the Honeywell GoDirect Satcom Network app can be used to confirm that the satellite communications system has end-to-end connectivity and troubleshoot any problems that it uncovers.
Simply connect your device to the onboard Wi-Fi system, the GoDirect Satcom Network app performs status queries of various components in the satellite communications system connection. Icons and text messages show whether the system is connected and indicate the status of each component. If an issue is detected, the app walks users through potential fixes.
When a Wi-Fi connection is down today, users have a hard time identifying exactly where the problem lies. This new application pinpoints the trouble spot and helps get the system back online – quickly and efficiently. If the situation requires, status query results can be saved, acted upon or emailed to Honeywell technical support staff members for resolution.
The GoDirect Satcom Network app was designed by applying Honeywell User Experience tools and voice of the customer feedback. It saves aircraft operators time and improves the reliability of the satellite communications connection.
Other features of the application include its ability to provide available navigation information via the iPad or iPhone and to show a coverage map indicating the satellite that is currently in use. The app also shows all the wireless devices on the network.
Honeywell is a leading force in the evolution of the connected aircraft. The company offers customers a complete portfolio of hardware, software and services designed to enable high-speed satellite communications anywhere they fly with speed and reliability comparable to what they experience on the ground.
