Airwork Orders 100th Honeywell Engine for BK117 Upgrade

Honeywell Aerospace and joint-venture partner Airwork marked a major milestone in their partnership recently when Airwork placed its 100th order for Honeywell’s tried-and-true LTS101-850B-2 engine

Honeywell Aerospace and joint-venture partner Airwork marked a major milestone in their partnership recently when Airwork placed its 100th order for Honeywell’s tried-and-true LTS101-850B-2 engine. The partnership was formed in 2009 to give Airbus BK117 helicopter operators the best possible engine-upgrade option.

The upgrade gives BK117 operators an economical way to meet Category A/Class 1 requirements while dramatically improving performance, safety and reliability. The engine is the most powerful version of Honeywell’s proven LTS101-series engine family, which has logged more than 11 million service hours since its introduction in the mid-1970s.

The upgraded helicopter is branded the BK117-850D2. With the new engine installed, the helicopter is the ideal choice for a variety of utility roles including lifting, powerline work, firefighting, seismic, oil and gas production support and passenger transport. Nearly 50 of the upgraded helicopters are flying today and the partnership sees many more opportunities on the horizon.

Airwork is part of the largest diversified general aviation companies in New Zealand. The company is a Honeywell Aerospace authorized service center.
