Honeywell Survey Reveals 97 Percent of UAE Passengers See Technology as the Answer to Stress-Free Travel

Technology is enabling a better, smarter and less stressful passenger experience. That’s the almost-unanimous opinion of airline passengers responding to a recent Honeywell survey conducted in the United Arab Emirates. Ninety-seven percent of the passengers surveyed agreed that e-tickets, e-boarding passes, luggage location tracking systems and other innovations make airports more efficient and less stressful.

The benefits of technology don’t end when the cabin door closes. Many respondents consider in-flight Wi-Fi not just a convenience but an essential travel tool. In fact, three-quarters of those surveyed said they would sacrifice another amenity – such as a meal or pre-assigned seats – for fast, free and reliable Wi-Fi so they can stay connected with friends, family and work.

“Efficiencies inside the terminal and on board the aircraft are crucial to passengers’ perception of air travel in the UAE,” said Norm Gilsdorf, president of Russia, Middle East and Central Asia, Honeywell. “This survey shows airports and airlines can further excel in customer satisfaction by investing in technology to minimize disruptions and allow smarter travel.”

Delays are a deal-breaker for many UAE passengers, the survey found. Almost one-fourth of respondents (23 percent) said they would not consider flying the same airline again after experiencing a delay. Travelers between the ages of 25 and 29 were even less likely to rebook with an airline on which they experienced a delay.

With passenger traffic in the Middle East projected to triple in the next five years, airports and airlines need to invest in technologies that improve efficiency, safety and comfort to meet the demands of today’s flyers and tomorrow’s. Almost all (94 percent) of those surveyed think that airlines and airports in the UAE are taking the right steps to improve on-time performance and minimize delays. Forty-seven percent urge continued investment to enhance speed and efficiency.
