Exciting news has been announced at Heli-Expo this week from our partner Marenco Swisshelicopter. The company has signed its first operator for the new SKYe SH09 helicopter in Africa. The newly announced operator, Henley Air, provides clients with a variety of single and multi-engine aircraft to meet the diverse requirements of the market ranging from passenger transport, commercial, utility and private charter as well as helicopter training. The HTS900 engine will power the helicopter and will enable high levels of performance which are necessary to overcome the extreme operating environments of the region.
The HTS900 is the latest addition to the Honeywell family of helicopter engines and incorporates next generation dual centrifugal compressor architecture, which is designed by Honeywell. This technology increases power output, reduces fuel consumption and allows for future engine growth. The engine utilizes a dual channel FADEC system to ease pilot workload and facilitate engine maintenance planning.
The deal with Henley Air brings the number of SKYe SH09 helicopters on order to 60 aircraft, with significant progress being made on the program. 2014 saw the helicopter complete its first flight, as well as a number of other critical program milestones.
Mathias Senes, Chief Commercial Officer at Marenco Swisshelicopter commented, “The SKYe SH09 is entering an exciting phase of its development and as can be seen by this latest letter of intent we continue to see interest from around the world for this new concept in helicopter design and performance. Our partnership with Honeywell on the HTS900 means we are able to deliver the high levels of performance our operators require, especially in challenging operating environments.”
