Collier Trophy Goes to Gulfstream for Honeywell-Equipped G650

Gulfstream® earned the prestigious 2014 Robert J. Collier Trophy for development of the G650 business jet, an aircraft equipped with a wide range of Honeywell avionics and mechanical systems.

The trophy was announced by the National Aeronautic Association at its June 3 Spring Awards Dinner in Washington, D.C.; Honeywell was one of the event’s sponsors. The NAA said the G650 “strengthened business aviation through significant technological advancements in aircraft performance, cabin comfort and safety.”

“We couldn’t be more proud to accept this trophy,” said Larry Flynn, Gulfstream president in a company press release.
“It represents far more than the accomplishments of an aircraft. It represents the men and women behind the product, the suppliers who support it, the customers who believe in it and the dreams that gave us wings to fly.”
“Congratulations to Gulfstream on this well-deserved recognition for a truly remarkable aircraft,” said Brian Sill, president of Honeywell’s Business & General Aviation business unit. “We’re extremely proud of to be a member of the Gulfstream team and to provide a variety of innovative technologies that make the G650 one of the most advanced and efficient aircraft flying today.”

Honeywell developments for the G650 include the PlaneViewTM II flight deck, which is based on the proven Primus Epic integrated avionics system. Honeywell’s IntuVue™ 3-D weather radar system, Enhanced Ground Proximity Warning System, Runway Awareness and Advisory System, and Gulfstream Enhanced Vision System II, combine to provide the G650 with one of the most comprehensive safety-system suites in business aviation.

The G650 was the first business aircraft to fly with Honeywell’s Next Generation Flight Management System, which improves fuel-efficiency and on-time performance, as well as a suite of navigation and communications equipment. Honeywell also provides the auxiliary power unit, air turbine starter and environmental control and cabin pressure system components to the aircraft.

This marks the third time that Gulfstream has won the Collier Trophy, which is presented annually for the “greatest achievement in aeronautics of astronautics in America, with respect to improving the performance, efficiency and safety of air or space vehicles,” according to the NAA.
